Research Proposal Research Question: What are the most effective social media marketing strategies for a small business called Bookworm Pottery and Co.? Reflection Progress: I am particularly interested in this topic of growing small businesses via social media because of my family-owned stationery shop, I know for a fact that small business owners need social media more than ever now to keep sailing. I strongly believe that social media marketing can be a powerful tool for small businesses to reach their target audience and grow their businesses. After a long thinking session, I zeroed in on a small business called Bookworm Pottery and Co. If I had more money and fewer responsibilities, I would have traveled, done various adventures, and slept after two hours of pottery sessions. Alas, it’s not the case, hence I selected this business to stay a bit closer to my ideal life and help the art form I love so much. I am interested in helping them to develop a more effective social media marketing strategy. Business: Bookworm Pottery and Co. is a small business based out of Wilmington, North Carolina that sells handmade pottery and hosts pottery workshops. The owner of the business, Ashley, is very passionate about pottery and books, and she wants to create a welcoming and inclusive space for people to come together and enjoy these things. She is a ceramic artist who creates pottery to nurture her soul and spread warmth to others. She had a desire to connect with people in a similar way she’s lived through books and other story-telling mediums along with her fascination to create magical moments in monotonous moments through pottery gave birth to Bookworm Pottery and Co. Ashley is already active on social media, that being said, I firmly believe that Bookworm Pottery and Co. would benefit a great deal by exploring new social media strategies. Review:
The research problem that I am investigation is the effective social media marketing strategies for small business, particularly for cermaic/pottery business. The context in which this problem arises is that social media has become increasingly imperative tool for businesses of all sizes to reach their right target audience and grow their businesses. Regardless, it can be difficult for small businesses to determine which social media platforms and strategies fit their business best. The significance of addressing this problem is that social media marketing can be a very effective way for small businessesprovided they use social media effectively to not miss out on valuable opportunities. Research Objectives: 1. Identify the most effective social media platforms for Bookworm Pottery and Co. to use. 2. Identify the most effective social media marketing strategies for Bookworm Pottery and Co. to use. 3. Develop a social media marketing plan for Bookworm Pottery and Co. that is tailored to their specific needs and goals. Hypotheses: The most effective social media platforms: Instagram, Tiktok, and Pinterest. The most effective social media marketing strategies: Creating User Generated Content, Telling a story, creating a community for sense of belonging as this business operates as a physical space as well, innovation in ceramic designs, more systimzed and aesthetically appealing IG feed. A social media marketing plan that is tailored to the specific needs and goals of Bookworm Pottery and Co. will be more effective than a generic social media marketing plan. I will use a variety of methods to collect data for this study. I will review the research on different social media platforms and strategies, and I will also conduct a case study of a similar small business that has successfully used social media marketing to grow its business. I anticipate that the findings of this study will be helpful to Ashley and many others like her to use social media marketing to reach their target audience and grow their businesses.
