IHP 510 Module Six Worksheet
Priority One
Target Market and Demographic: Lower Income-Hispanic Population
Department/Program/Service: Wellness & Prevention-Obesity
Marketing Technique:
Paper Flyers
Discussion:
Hispanic Americans face several challenges regarding access to health care, medical treatments, or preventative medical care. Language, cultural barriers, and higher poverty prevent them from seeking medical treatment. Overweight people are more likely to have diabetes, high LDL cholesterol, high blood fat levels, and high blood pressure, all health risks for heart disease and stroke. In 2018, there were 1.2 times as many obese Hispanic Americans as white non-Hispanics.
As a marketing strategy, I would use flyers to reach out to the Hispanic population within the Hispanic community, such as community clinics, churches, schools, and storefronts. Flyers can be customized in Spanish to be handed out or collected by the target market. Flyers also have a beneficial impact on raising awareness of the health risks of obesity, healthy food options, and medical services available for weight management. Advertising with flyers aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and value by providing access to services and promoting healthier living options. The information will be presented to Missourians in a way that respects their individual needs and socioeconomic status, reflecting their vibrant, varied community.
Priority Two
Target Market and Demographic: Middle Income-White Population
Department/Program/Service: Wellness & Prevention-Tobacco Use
Marketing Technique: Digital Billboard
Discussion: In the United States, smoking continues to be the largest contributor to illness and death. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Center and Prevention), in 2021, 12.3% of the middle-income-White population were smokers, low-income white population rate was much higher at 18.3%. In 2018, Missouri had the tenth-highest adult smoking rate in the nation (19.4%). Adults with lower earnings are more likely to smoke than adults with higher incomes. 13.6% of people who make $75,000 or more a year reported smoking, compared to 39.8% of adults making $15,000 or less.
Using digital billboards as a marketing strategy will be a way to capture drivers, whether on their
way to work, running errands, or on a leisurely drive. Although drivers' attention is on the road,
they may also be drawn to the enormous, eye-catching digital billboards along the side of the road. Having a captive audience ensures that they will see the billboard for at least a few seconds, give it some thought as they drive, retain the image, and be engaged.
The digital billboards align with the program’s mission, vision, and value statement by creating, carrying out, and supporting strategic initiatives to safeguard the general public health from the harmful effect of tobacco usage.
Priority Three
Target market and demographic: Affluent-White Population
Department/Program: Wellness & Prevention-Nutrition
Marketing technique
: Social Media
Discussion:
The Department of Health and Senior Services in Missouri urges residents of the state to consume more fruits and vegetables and to make them more accessible in their homes, places of employment, and other locations where food is offered. One of the most crucial things an individual can do to be and remain healthy at any age is to eat a balanced diet and engage in regular physical activity.
Higher-income families spent $163 vs. $100 more per person on food at home and out monthly than lower-income households. Higher-income households spent more money on healthy and less healthy foods from various sources. Lower-income families spent a larger proportion of their
eating-out dollars at take-out places, and a larger proportion of their home beverage purchases were sugar-sweetened beverages. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthier food options are not always available. Individuals may settle for items that are higher in calories and less nutritious. People from low-income areas and some racial and ethnic groups sometimes do not have easy access to establishments that provide inexpensive, healthier foods.
The social media marketing tool is beneficial because the concern about the general population's health and consumer health is a subject of significant attention nowadays. Social media marketing aims
to reach a targeted market and consumers where they are
in the context of their social interactions with one another. Although I was unable to locate the department's mission, vision, and values for nutrition and physical activity, Missouri's Department of Health's mission, vision, and value statement entails providing services to Missourians in a way that is sensitive to their specific needs and circumstances while reflecting their rich, diverse community and having integrity when conducting services with a consistency of character in a highly conscientious manner by honoring their commitments and maintaining our high standards.
