QUESTION 1 1. What is the difference between a management system standard and a specification standard? Your response must be at least 75 words in length. The difference between a management system standard and a specification standard is how they are executed. A management system standard will outline general requirements and guidelines usually, establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving a specific management system within an organization or a company. It will provide a framework that can be applied universally across various industries. And a specification standard specifies detailed requirements. These standards tend to be more focused and often more industry specific. QUESTION 2 1. Explain the differences between safety culture and safety climate. Illustrate your explanation by giving examples of ways to evaluate each in the workplace. Your response must be at least 75 words in length. Typically, safety culture and safety climate are usually used as exchangeable terms. However, they both have different meanings for these terms. Safety culture is an outcome of the decision and actions taken by the governing management over a long term for example, workplace that reward employees for ceasing work that may be unsafe, even if it means losing materials or missing a deadline. Safety climate is defined as the beliefs and perceptions that employees have pertaining to safety in a given area of operations at a given time. For example, it focuses on staff’s current perceptions about supervision. QUESTION 3 1. Your eTextbook discusses how  Management Leadership  and  Employee Participation  are essential sections of the ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 and ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45001-2018. Explain why ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 and ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45001-2018 are important in developing an effective safety management system. Support your discussion with real-world examples of their application. Your response must be at least 200 words in length. Both standards are important because the provide guidelines to develop effective safety management systems in workplaces. They also help organizations create the framework to ensure the health safety and well-being of everyone. After reading over ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 it seems that this standard is used to provide a comprehensive approach to occupational health and safety management programs. Typically, this standard will outline principles, guidelines, and practices for integrating safety into an organization’s culture and operations. For example, having a company implement Z10.0 principles by conducting regular safety training for all employees, establishing clear safety protocols, and implementing a system for reporting hazards and incidents. As for ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45001-2018 it is a standard that is international and primarily focuses specifically on occupational health and safety management systems that provide proactive improvements. By identifying and controlling risk, complying with legal requirements, and engaging employees at all levels. For example, a real-world scenario would be having a company (construction company) adopting this guideline by conducting thorough risk assessment before starting any project, ensuring employees are equipped properly with safety gear, and regularly updating safety procedures. Doing this would be a proactive approach which would lead to significant decrease in accidents within the work center. It would also enhance the safety program in the company.
QUESTION 4 1. Both the ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 and ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45001-2018 discuss employee involvement. Discuss the management and employee benefits of implementing both the ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 and ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45001-2018, and summarize how employees could be encouraged to get involved with the safety management system. Your response must be at least 200 words in length. Both ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 and ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45001-2018 do discuss the involvement of the employees in companies. However, both ANSI/ASSP Z10.0-2019 and ANSI/ASSP/ISO 45001-2018 have benefits for management and employees when being implemented. These benefits are significant when it comes to safety management. The benefits for management and employees are as followed. Management benefits 1. By implementing both systems reduction in incidents and cost will decrease in the work center. Lower workplace incidents, injuries, and illnesses will directly lower the cost that is associated with workers’ compensation. 2. They will both create a safer work environment which tends to lead to improving productivity by having less disruptions in workflow. 3. Finally, by following both of these systems it will help in establish the commitment to the well- being and safety of employees. Employee benefits 1. Implementing both systems creates a sense of security and the well-being while employees are working. 2. Another benefit of these two systems being implemented is they empower and have the employees engaged. Having the employees involved gives them a voice. However, the issue can be encouraging the employees to be involved in safety management system. The following are some strategies to help encourage them. 1. Educating employees about the importance of safety standards, potential hazards, and how they can actively contribute to maintain a safe workplace. 2. Encouraging open communication, have them suggest improvements and share their concerns without the fear of reprisal. 3. Finally, give them recognition and incentives. This will help provide reinforcement from them.
