For all discussions you are expected to post your answers to the discussion questions described below and AT LEAST ONE follow-up to one of your group member's posts. You can and are encouraged to post more than this requirement since we are hoping to create a dialog. As I mentioned earlier, our collective experiences are one of the areas we as a group need to mine…as in gold mine! For more details with respect to the expectations in the posts, please review the syllabus and the scoring rubric, and reach out to your instructor. 1. Our road map in the Leader's Handbook begins and ends with the six practices of leadership. Even though these steps are interdependent and are not sequential, developing a vision and strategy is an incredibly difficult task. In many ways, if you think of this from a competitive standpoint, you are creating a future, rather than following one. That takes a substantial amount of risk! For this week, critically analyze your company's vision and strategy. Look at both the content and activities and then use the 'five tests for your strategy' and offer your opinion on creating a sustainable competitive advantage. What a great question for this week! My company just held our 2021 Q4 Town Hall as a update to all employees about what has happened over the course of 2021 and where we are setting goals and strategies for 2022. I love that our executive team takes the time to do these Town Hall meetings every quarter to, not only update employees but also acknowledge outstanding achievements and significant tenures. While I am not able to share specifics about the strategy we have in place, I can see that our executives are looking toward the future and making moves to keep our company performing at its best. Our company has taken a distinctive value proposition by adding products to our brand that fit a variety of needs. When we started, we were a one product shop and would have to turn consumers away that did not fit that niche market. As we have grown, we have found alternative distributions that allow us to say “yes, we can help you” to more consumers. This season, we moved to more liquid balance sheet that is allowing for more capital operations to begin for growth. We have plans in place to gain a more significant portion of the market share in the 2022 Q1 as we push those projects forward. Setting a clear goal and vision is something that I feel my company has done very well with over the last 7 years that I have been employed. The continuity of common vision and communication has been a solid basis for where we are continuing to grow. 2. Life as we know it is busy and there is no shortage of items and activities that draw our attention and use up our time. As Master's students, there is no shortage of things to do! Yet, our spiritual health is incredibly important. Do you have a strategy for managing your spiritual health? Do share but please, back your words up with His Words. Share with us your go to scriptures and those that help you find peace amidst the hurried environment we live. As a solo parent, full time student, full time employee, and regular human being, there is always something to do. One of the things I enjoy about this time of year is the focus on my spiritual health. There are so many reminders of God’s grace, mercy, and peace that abound this time of year. I spend my mornings in daily prayer and meditation. Most days I’ll journal my thoughts along with a Bible verse in my notebook. I have found it helps to keep it at the front of my mind if I take the time to write it out as I read it. The month of December I like to take gospel stories of Jesus’s arrival (nativity) and compare their versions. I feel like this gives me such an insight to who they were and their relationship with Jesus. As none of the apostles were present at his birth, these are stories that they had been told, either as children, or by Jesus himself. Matthew, Luke, and John each present unique and yet complimentary
views of the arrival of Jesus on this earth. John 1:1 resonates with me each season as I am reminded that “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.” References: Ashkenas, R. N., & Manville, B. (2019). Responses: Hello Diana, I appreciate your perspective on the leadership strategies of the company for which you work. It sounds like you have a very clear vision of what your company does and its competitive position. Additionally, I agree with your that taking time to remember self-care is important to our spiritual health. It can be card to keep that at the forefront of our minds as we are engaged in a variety of tasks and experiences. I also keep a journal. I found a long time ago that getting the thoughts out of my head an onto paper left more room in my brain for the things that were more important. On that same note, I found that reading and writing down scripture helped me to maintain more memorized verses that will come up at the most opportune times. Many blessings, Allison
