When an emergency or crisis occurs people want results as soon as possible. When an emergency occurs police are notified, ems dispatched and so on. All of these agencies are there to assist with the emergency. People are so grateful for the response no one thinks about the process to which the agencies are notified and what to do once they are notified. Emergency services such as police and ems are very important and so is emergency management that sets a plan for what to do when an emergency occurs. Emergency management is extremely important. It is essential that all personnel are aware of emergency procedures selected by emergency management. There are some emergency situations when the response to the emergency were excellent and others when they were not. A shooting in Chardon Ohio in 2012 was an emergency situation that received excellent emergency response
which means excellent emergency management.
Background
In Chardon, Ohio 2012 there was a massive shooting. T.J Lane entered a high school and shot up students sitting in the cafeteria. T.J Lane had shot 6 students before he ran out of the cafeteria. At 7:38 a.m a teacher had dialed 911 and informed them of the active shooter in the school. In less than 12 minutes all injured students were transported to a local walmart where helicopters picked up the severely injured students and took them to local hospital. When
the audio was played from the 911 phone call it was said that things were reported in a calm manor as they were aware of what to do in case of an emergency. When police arrived on the scene they swept the building and notified it was secure and allowed EMS in to attend to the injured students. While EMS attended to the students police then searched the school for the shooter. Everything was handled in an efficient manner. The injured students were removed and
sent to receive medical treatment in a fast and efficient way. Emergency agencies were informed in a very fast way and responded to the emergency in a fast and efficient way to ensure those that were injured received medical attention and to prevent any further problems.
