TO: Professor Abderrahmane Alaoui FROM: Arlette Campbell SUBJECT: Finals PAD 702 DATE: December 14th, 2023 1. How might the general principles of learning be applied to better understand. Why did the teller not follow company policy regarding robberies? The teller likely experienced fear and shock during the robbery attempt, overriding her training and causing her to react instinctively. As a result, adrenaline can impair cognitive function and decision-making, causing deviations from established practices. While the teller received training in 2015, the training may not have been recent enough or sufficiently emphasized the importance of protocol in such situations. Less practiced information is more likely to be forgotten or disregarded in stressful situations. Therefore general principles must be revisited and retained for the employee to better understand the guidelines and protocol. 2. Select a training strategy that you believe would be most appropriate for re-training employees about bank robberies. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of this form of training and why you think it would be the most appropriate in this context. Simulates real-life robbery situations so employees can practice responding under pressure and in a safe environment. Improves the ability to transfer skills and knowledge from the classroom to the real world. Active participation in scenarios can improve understanding and retention of information. Provides immediate feedback on performance, allowing for identifying areas for improvement and tailoring training accordingly. Disadvantages: Developing and setting up simulations can be more expensive than traditional training methods. Requires additional time for employee participation as well as training development. Although simulations provide a safe environment, they can still be stressful for some participants. Scenario-based simulation training emphasizes realism and transfer of training, making it the best choice. Through a realistic and engaging experience, this method addresses the identified learning principles by helping employees overcome fear, shock, and transfer knowledge to
real-world situations. For me it is the most appropriate training for this scenario to avoid the worst cases if this incident may happen again in the future. In spite of the fact that the current robberies did not cause any harm, it could happen another way if these unfortunate incidents recur. Now assume the role of manager of the bank. Beyond re-training, what would be your approach to this situation? Your goal: to prevent or reduce the likelihood that bank protocols and policies (regarding robberies) will be violated in the future. As a bank manager I will handle/approach this scenario by the following process to prevent or reduce the likelihood of protocols and policies to be violated in the future; To maintain awareness and knowledge of robbery protocols, schedule regular refresher training sessions. Promote open communication among employees regarding robbery procedures and concerns they may have. If an incident occurs, I would let the employee attend a seminar and training on the Safety protocol and policies if robberies happened. Offer employees psychological support and resources to cope with potential robbery anxieties. Conduct role-playing activities to practice different robbery scenarios and foster collaborative problem-solving. Consider offering incentives to encourage active participation in training programs. Clearly communicate the potential consequences of violating robbery protocols. References Stone, R. J., Cox, A., & Gavin, M. (2020). Human resource management. John Wiley & Sons.
