Class, Personal safety should be practiced daily, regardless of profession. In this case, we will discuss safety as a real estate agent in this career choice. As a real estate agent, personal safety is essential because you will constantly meet new clients you have never met before. Talking to a new client on the phone for the first time compared to meeting them at a property is two different things, and they should be approached cautiously. A safety plan that I would follow would be: 1. When engaging with a new client, if we spoke for the first time on the phone, I would ask if they can come into the office so we can come up with a game plan. 2. Let someone know my location, as well as have it shared with someone 3. When showing a property, arrive about 30 min before the client so I can walk the property. 4. If possible, bring an assistant along. 5. Conduct background checks on the client. 6. Limit showings of properties to the daytime only; if you need to show a listing at night, bring someone along. One change in real estate is the improvement of technology. Technology is constantly improving, and real estate will undoubtedly be affected positively. When I bought my current home in Virginia, I did the whole process while still living in Washington State; that was the first time I ever heard about buying a home “site unseen.” I did all my walkthroughs through Facetime. The only way to keep up with the changes in real estate is to be educated on everything new that is constantly happening. Understanding and being flexible with your clients will help you deal with recent changes.
