Mod 6: NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct Reflective Thinking Reflective Activity: In this Module you reviewed the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. Review Section 2, Ethical Responsibilities to Families. Select one Ideal from Section 2 that you feel is a strength for you. Discuss why it is a strength or how it shows as a strength in your work. Then select one Ideal as an area of growth for you. Discuss the steps you will take to grow in that area. Strength- I-2.4—To listen to families, acknowledge and build upon their strengths and competencies, and learn from families as we support them in their task of nurturing children. I believe that this ideal is a strength of mine because it is the easiest thing for me to do. I have no problem listening to the families and I would love to learn new ways to nurture children from them. I would also have no problem supporting the family and trying to implement their strategies into my classroom. Needs growth- I-2.5—To respect the dignity and preferences of each family and to make an effort to learn about its structure, culture, language, customs, and beliefs to ensure a culturally consistent environment for all children and families. Although I respect every culture, custom and beliefs other than my own, I can admit that I know little about any other than my own. I plan to move to a city where there will be children with many cultural backgrounds in my classroom. My little knowledge on other cultures could cause problems for families and I would not want that. I would have to learn more about other cultures, customs, and beliefs so that I can ensure that the children have a culturally consistent environment. Another step I would take towards growth would also be to talk to the parents and learn more about their specific customs and beliefs and try my best to incorporate it into my classroom. My Reflections: (worth 10 points) Reflect on the module looking back at the value for you!  First, think about significant gains or learning that you acquired through the module in reading about the Code of Ethical Conduct, and reflect on how this new information is meaningful and valuable to your current or future work with families and For each module you will have 2 Reflective Thinking activities to complete. The first will always be titled “Reflective Activity” (worth 5 points) and the second “My Reflections” (worth 10 points). Follow the directions below to complete the Reflective Activity and My Reflections. Save your work and upload to the Reflective Thinking Dropbox. Be sure to review the Grading Rubric for each activity (attached to the dropbox). ECED 2040
children. What have you learned? What do you find most valuable to you and why? What would you like to know more about? In this activity you might also take time to think about your journey in the course up to this point. How has the course been meaningful to you? Do you need to take any steps to either continue your success in the course or to work towards success in the course? You have three options for sharing your personal reflections: a Journal, a Wordle, or a Web. The instructions and samples for the three options are available on My Reflections Instructions, which is attached to the dropbox. Read about the three options. Select one of the three and complete your reflection. Submit it on this document with your Reflective Activity. Be sure to review the grading rubric, also attached to the dropbox, before completing your activity. In this module, I learned more about the Code of Ethical Conduct. The new information I learned in this module will be helpful in helping me to ensure that I am following the responsibilities need to have safe environments for the children, and to have good relationships with parents and co-workers. They also help to ensure that I stay focuses and remain interested in the child’s well-being. I find everything that I learned in this module to be very valuable because it will help me in having healthy relationships with my students, their families and co- workers. This course has taught me a lot about the different types of relationships, cultures, and the many roles that parents play. I believe that I need to try harder in this course and be more open and less afraid to record the sharing circle video. Although, its only 5 points I believe that they will play a huge role in my success in this course.
