Warehouse Job Posting: Addressing Physical Requirement Concerns

To: Department Managment From: Samantha Ortiz, Human Resource Subject: Warehouse Job Posting Requirements Hello, Thank you for contacting me about your concern with the Warehouse job post about the lifting requirement. I understand that there have been some difficulties with hiring new candidates due to the mentioning of the weight requirement. Unfortunately, due to it being a physical requirement, we are unable to remove that detail from the job posting. Keeping the required weight lift description can let the person applying know what is expected beforehand. Eliminating this detail may resolve to dishonesty from the company to the employee(s) or even a lawsuit. If the company goes through a lawsuit due to potential lack of transparency on the job requirement or others are unhappy because of how the company hides important details like that. It can lead to a poor reputation for future employees, customers, investors, and everyone else involved with the company. If employees leave the job unhappy, other employees will see what is going on and feel like the company is untrustworthy. It would be hard to find liable and trustworthy employees if they don’t feel like they are getting the same in return. Job descriptions should include that there will be physical challenges order to not violate the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). I can better word the requirements if needed, but before that I have a few questions:

1. Is there any equipment, such as a dolly, pully system, or forklift, that can be used to complete this requirement? If so, what type of additional qualifications are needed (such as certificates, license, permits, etc.) to use the equipment? 2. If we could remove the physical requirements, would there be new requirements that need to be added? For example, the amount of warehouse experiences a person has. Instead of hiring and training newer to this field of work, we can hire someone who has years of experience and who knows what to expect. Again, thank you for reaching out to me with your concern and we apologize for not giving you the update you were looking for. Moving forward, I hope we can work together and find a better compromise to help both you and I and do what’s best for the business. If there are any other concerns or questions, please contact me.
