This week we are looking at ethics and the important for businesses to have a code of conduct.  This is extremely important with every business and something that companies cannot overlook.  I outlined your three questions on this below. 1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a company having a formal code of conduct that employees are obligated to follow? 1. Some advantages of having a formal code of conduct are Better workplace culture, following the law, and having a set of rules to go buy keeps everything in place and order. Some disadvantages would be Lack of management support, unethical corporate behavior, and lack of stability. 2. What are your thoughts about whether employees should have to participate in mandatory ethical trainings each year? I believe they should just because they should be up to date on ethics and the company’s rules, policies, and procedures. 3. How might having a code of conduct help an employee make decisions when faced with an ethical situation? It will give them guidance on what to do and how to handle the situation and who to talk to handle the situation at hand. What do you think would happen to a company who ignored having a code of conduct and promoted a culture of wrongdoing? They can be sued, reported, shut down and slandered for being unethical.  What are the legal ramifications, as well as the overall ramifications to the business?  Would a business even be able to function like that? A code of conduct encourages ethics, compliance, and helps employees locate relevant documents and or procedures.
