Student’s Last Name 1 Student's Name Professor's Name Subject DD MM YYYY Peer Performance Appraisal Peer evaluation within a team can positively impact the perceptions of open communication group cohesion, motivation, and satisfaction. This paper proposes the fairest and most accurate method to evaluate the team's performance in a group project. Areas of Evaluation Depending on the project type, marks will be awarded to the student for showing the following Ability to collaborate as a team Work Quality Delivery of Presentation Leadership Cooperation and attendance Evaluators Being that the project is 100% peer-evaluated, each team member will assess at least two team members and give substantive comments on their presentation. The course instructor or professor will further assess the peer assessments. How to evaluate, tools and process I would use multiple measurements to capture components such as team-level cognitive behaviors and attitudes. The tool I would use is the Behavior Anchored Rating Scale (BARS), and the process would involve using rubrics that will consist of three parts
Student’s Last Name 2 related to performance criteria, rating scale, and indicator. The rubric will ensure standardized evaluation Biases and Errors There might be a likelihood of teammates having a personal relationship outside the group, and they may be tempted to rate each other high even if performance is not up to the standards. The only way to prevent this biasness from happening is not to allow such individuals to rate each other. These might also be errors in awarding marks. Some peers might not feel comfortable awarding poor grades for fear of confrontation or maybe anxiety to award a fellow poor evaluation. The most effective way is to promote good work ethics to avoid such problems during the assessment. Resolving inconsistencies If there are differing opinions on the evaluation, I would ask the evaluators their reasons for their rating, particularly conflicting views, and listen to both sides of the story. Secondly, I would verify the standards and indicators outlined in the rubric. The last resort would be to explain the standards and request for reevaluation of their ratings Pros and cons Professor Pro: Ensure the fairest and most unbiased assessment, as no bias will happen Cons: It would not be easy to evaluate behind the scene performance because the professor may not be present during the preparation of the presentation. Myself Pros: I am aware of the group activities and can track my performance from presentation to presentation
Student’s Last Name 3 Cons: my teammates may award me low marks if we have internal misunderstandings. My teammates Pros: they know the group's vision and see team members complete their work. Cons: internal conflict can result in biasness in awarding marks Classmates and viewers Pros: they can give fair and unbiased appraisals of the presentation because they are non-participants in my team. Cons: they might award a low score if we have a misunderstanding with them
