First article I reviewed for this week’s discussion board was “Balanced Scorecard as a Tool Supporting Organization Management” by Leszek Szczupak & Maciej Stajniak which was published with the purpose of present Balanced Scorecard as a support tool for the decision process within an organization. The authors, Szczupak & Stajniak (2022), present their research of Balanced Scorecards as a strategic method for the management to make decisions to reach their goals. The research was conducted from analyzing secondary data and concluded that the implementation of Balanced Scorecards improves decision’s functionality. The second article I reviewed was “What are the benefits and challenges of using the Balanced Scorecard for IT strategy” published by LinkedIn in a collaboration with AI and the LinkedIn Community. This article describes Balanced Scorecards from an IT perspective and covers aspects such as benefits, challenges, tips, and other important factors to consider when using Balanced Scorecards. According to the article, Balanced Scorecards are beneficial in the way they capture and present perspectives from both a financial and a non-financial aspect which supposedly generates a more balanced view of an organization’s IT performance. However, it is also indicated that due to IT complexity, outcomes can be tricky to read. As an IT manager, any tool that can help me to measure IT objectives and compare with business outcomes is helpful. For instance, it can be can of hard to compare financial aspects that I see as more tangible with non-financial aspects that I would categorize as nontangible but with the multi perspective analyzes my LinkedIn article states that the Balance Scorecards provides it is easier to justify IT investments (LinkedIn, 2023). What is stated in the LinkedIn article is also confirmed in the eText, by Turban et al. (2021) that states that Balanced Scorecards are tools functions as a method for organizations to align their business
strategy with their IT strategy (Turban et al., 2021). So, as an IT manager I would probably take an advantage of the tool to provide a clear view over the nontangible operations in order to analyze how to distribute the IT budget in a way that meets and benefit the business strategy.
