Project task:
Scenario
Generate innovative thinking and creativity
You have been employed as the new Research and Development
Manager at Procter and Gamble’s Sydney branch. You have
received notice from head-office that a new line of hair care
products will be added. These products will be designed for hot, dry
weather conditions and need to appeal to the Australian market.
Your team needs to come up with new fresh ideas for adding this
new haircare product range and you will lead this project. Until you
arrived the team was not been very active with regards to
innovation, they tended to just sit back and take directions from
Head Office in the States. You have been asked to change this
behaviour and to implement innovative thinking and practices at
the Australian branch.
To do so, you need to complete the following tasks, use the
templates provided:
Task 1: Project plan
Task 2: Reflective journal - leadership analysis Task 3: Promotional plan
Task 4: Conduct a team meeting Task 5: Risk assessment
Task 6: Sustainability plan
1.
PROJECT PLAN
PROJECT PLAN (600-800 WORDS)
INTRODUCTION
This project plan has been created to satisfy the new demands of
products in Australia to protect hair in hot and dry weather.
PURPOSE
Creation of products for hot and dry weather conditions to satisfy the
customers in the Australian Market without the dependency of the
research products from the United States plant. Create an
environment of collaborative thinking and innovation within the
company that allows the company Being the pioneers in this kind of
product and deliver to nearby regions like Asia, New Zealand and India.
WHAT SHOULD THE PROJECT PLAN COVER?
•
Techniques and tools that have been used and trends for the future.
•
The innovation drivers and enablers of this industry.
•
Current innovation theories that are applicable to this industry and their analysis.
•
Three (3) processes that you will use for introducing innovative thinking techniques and practices
•
Justification for the selection of these processes.
TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS THAT HAVE BEEN USED AND TRENDS FOR THE FUTURE.
The most common theories about innovation that have been used in
most of the companies of massive consumption are Effective
brainstorming, design thinking and future trends are emerging
quickly such as open innovation, disruptive innovation and lean
innovation management. For this reason, is very important to foster
the innovation within the company by training the personnel,
requesting external advice, and fostering an environment of
collaborative thinking and innovation. The fact to involve all the
personnel in the project promotes the commitment and the feasibility
to have new ideas and products all as a team following the mission,
vision and values of the company.
INNOVATION DRIVERS AND ENABLERS.
One of the most important drivers is customer expectations, in this
case, the customer plays a major role in developing any project due
to expectations are changing by time with the technology and
environment. For this reason, to have a tight relationship with the

respond to the new challenges.
One enabler is the technology that is evolving constantly and quickly.
it can help to develop ideas complex in an easy way. Also,
talking about the products, the automation surge as an opportunity
to deliver products of high quality, low cost of production and
maintenance. Consequently, the advertisement of the product as well
can be easy to show to the final customer and expose the products to
the market and world.
Another enabler is the skilled force, the fact of having skilled people
within the team is a high advantage in the field of innovation. A
skilled team can emerge with a plethora of ideas that can contribute
to the goals and mission of the company. On the other hand,
having a special team does not mean that the rest of the people
can not add ideas and knowledge to reach the objectives. In this
way, the company can encourage and empower each one of its
employees in innovation and creative thinking.
THREE (3) PROCESSES THAT YOU WILL USE FOR INTRODUCING INNOVATIVE THINKING TECHNIQUES AND PRACTICES
There are several processes to introduce innovative thinking, in
this case, we are going to choose 3. In the first step, we will
introduce the training of the personnel, the second one will be to
reward the creativity and the last and not less important tolerate the
mistakes. With these 3 processes, the company will encourage and
employees will be empowered to be innovative aligned with the
mission, vision and values of the company as well as the satisfaction
of the customers and market.
JUSTIFICATION FOR THE SELECTION OF THESE PROCESSES.
These three processes have been chosen by the company regarding
the innovative process. It is very important to say that innovation is a
long way with ups and downs, the personnel will find some issues to
face and there is a high possibility to make mistakes because is a
new project and there are trying to find out the best way to develop
the product before be launched tho the market. For this reason, P&G
is committed to tolerating the mistakes during the process for not
discourage the innovative thinking team. In addition, the fact to
train the employees can reduce the likelihood to make mistakes
during the process. finally is very important to acknowledge the
effort of the teams while they are developing ideas and product by
using rewards without damage to the work environment and do not
foster competition between them.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, by developing the topics above mentioned within the
company, the project manager can receive any challenge and

develop it with his team successfully because the company is
committed whit the internal development and the results of this
investment are going to be successful. Moreover, a tight relationship
with customers will contribute to

be in the vanguard of the market and finding a new niche to invest and expanding new ideas and innovation.

them feel as a part of the company, as well as it helps to take
advantage of any inconvenience and solve it easy and as team.
As leader, I like to engage with each member of the team to
acquire all their potential and encourage them to be better every

tools and techniques that allow them to have new ways to
develop the way of they think and becoming them in innovative
persons, giving positive solutions to the current challenges of the
market. This is one of the best way to encourage and empower
the employees to achieve the goals of the company in addition,
that they feel important in the company.
The third is rewarding the efforts of the team when the
ideas are making the difference within the company. However, it
must be carefully addressed to prevent internal rivalry and
damage the laboral
environment.
Three (3) strategies you will use to continuously
review,
challenge and refine your own style and practice in
relation to modelling and supporting innovation.
(150 – 200 words)
One strategy that I will use to improve myself would be the
feedback from my colleagues and my team, it must be the best
way to find out the areas that probably I am failing.
The second strategy is by doing constantly meetings with the team to forecast and supervise how the projects are evolving. The meetings help in great manner to clarify ideas, give new ideas, see the weaknesses and become those weaknesses in opportunities to achieve the goals. the final strategy is evaluating how the internal and external factors can impact in the way of thinking on my mind and my team, for instance, in the pandemic of Covid-19, the way of the people are working became the jobs very routine and the chances to create new ideas is low, for that reason, is very important play a dynamic role to encourage the
team to do not blur and keep motivate in spite of the circumstances.
3.
PROMOTIONAL PLAN
How will you promote innovative thinking and practices in the
business? Create a promotional plan, using the template
provided, for how you will introduce this to the following
audiences.

4.
DEVELOP A TEAM MEETING
Part 1
Introduce and promote your creative thinking techniques to
foster personal and team innovation in a team meeting. Use
the three strategies you have outlined above for your team
members to get your message across.
For the first strategy used which is the use of emotional
intelligence, the best thing to do is to create incentives for staff to
create an environment of innovation and commitment to the
company, staff are thus encouraged to take an active part in the
company’s projects, enabling them to grow both personally and
professionally, Likewise, business growth is promoted by having in
clear the common objective that is to fulfill both the vision and the
mission of the company.
Considering the second strategy, to promote the training of staff in
both knowledge and techniques and tools that allow them to
develop their way of thinking. The best option for this is a training
paid by the company, which allows the staff.
To end with the third strategy about rewarding team efforts when
staff ideas make a difference within the company, the best
incentive you can create is gift vouchers. These allow employees to
always give their best efforts in order to obtain greater profits in
the future. Similarly, one of the incentives that can be given, is to

Upload a copy of the notes from the brainstorming meeting (this

In conclusion, the brainstorming session was very constructive
because open your mind to other level, and share ideas and
different points of view. Also, you must be a good listener and have
into account all the thoughts of the team to create a collaborative
thinking. On one the hand, is very important take notes of
everything to check and have a good feedback to take the
advantage and disadvantage of the ideas.
In addition, is very important to use emotional intelligence during
the session because the people can agree or disagree the topic
as well as they can to start to deviate the subject or simply they
are against the ideas from others, in other words, be a mediator
between them and show your abilities as leader.
However, is very important to say that brainstorming process is just
the kick of of any new idea or product, that the consistency of each
one performing its job correctly is the base to create no only one if
not a plethora of ideas. Moreover, is highly recommended be
parcial in any idea or thought from the team member and do not
generate conflict between them which is an advantage at the
moment to cultivate a collaborative thinking and creative
innovation.

RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Assessment
How will you support innovative thinking and practices
in the
organisation? (30-50 words)
Innovative thinking and practices in an organisation can be
supported when innovation is aligned with the company’s
strategy, and there must be a commitment on the part of the
management team to develop a communication plan, ability and
incentives for company staff
Potential barriers and risks
to innovation (Any three)
Strategies to respond to the

barriers
1
Lack of interest
One of the strategies to overcome
the lack of interest of staff is to create
both wage and non-wage incentives
that have a direct and clear
translation in economic terms or
personal and professional projection.
These incentives drive action and
direct the efforts of the worker in the
direction of achieving both his
personal objectives and the
company’s objectives.
