The number of employees and the fleet size makes American Airlines the largest airline in
the world. It might have a high retention rate of employees, but there are also disadvantages,
which make employees, leave the airline. This article contains an account of a former employee
of the airline who gives the pros and cons of working there. One of its pros is the Association of

The pros, cons, and future of unions in aviation. (n.d.). Retrieved August 10, 2023, from

in.html
This article discusses the Unions in the aviation industry and their future. Employees’ unions are
essential as they ensure that their employees' rights are observed. In the aviation industry, these
unions ensure that the wages and working conditions of the airline workers are appropriate and
friendly. The unions have brought many changes in the industry to address different issues. They
create a collective bargaining process through which they are able to fight for the welfare of their
members. This is done through strikes, demonstrations and negotiations. The unions also ensure
the safety of their members. Despite their effectiveness, unions also have disadvantages which
affect employers significantly. For instance, some unions demand unreasonable pay raises, which
affects the company management and later customers who are forced to pay more for flight
services. Strikes are disruptive and can be costly to companies as activities in the facility stop.
Because of the impact of strikes, the management tends to respond to the union's demands
quickly, even if they are unreasonable. This can make the management disgruntled and
unsatisfied. This is a resourceful article as it provides information on the flight attendants'

unions, which protect their rights, ensuring that the flight attendants' pay is fair and the working
conditions are conducive. This information helps to analyse American Airlines' working
conditions, especially for flight attendants.

American flight attendants demand huge pay raises. One Mile at a Time.
https://onemileatatime.com/news/american-flight-attendants-pay-raises/
This article outlines a demand by American Airlines flight attendants to have their pay increased.
It states that this demand comes after the pilots in the airline were given massive pay raises. The
union of flight attendants in the company, which is known as The Association of Professional
Flight Attendants (AFPA), prepared a new proposal to demand that the flight attendants also get
a pay rise similar to that of the pilots. The union demanded an increase in pay, reserve
guarantees, some premiums, per diems, as well as new night and boarding pay. This proposal
was considered unreasonable, which shows one disadvantage of unions. The author, however,
considers the proposal justifiable since the pay rise to only pilots was unfair to the other labour
groups in the organization. Considering the supply and demand, where there is a shortage of
pilots, while the pool of potential flight attendants is large, the pilots deserve high pay. The
training period for pilots also takes years, while flight attendants take weeks to complete their
training, which also explains the right to pay increases for pilots. This article is essential in the
project, as it explains more about a problem that was encountered in the company.
