Surname 1 Student’s name Professor’s name Course Date NYC Marathon The article "Stakeholders' Perception of Critical Risks and Challenges Hosting Marathon Events: An Exploratory Study" shares essential interventions for enhancing risk management in marathon events. Marathon events invite many sporting spectacles to access it since it is an open event, which poses significant challenges in terms of security and management (Hall et al. 15). However, the authors of the study highlight the challenges associated with marathon events in the US with the key findings being presented for further interventions. The primary key finding drawn from the study is the safety awareness that should form part of risk management planning after the 2013 Boston marathon bombing. The risk of bombing during marathons has raised concern among various stakeholders to focus more on participant spectators' safety. Also, risk management preparedness is fundamental when organizing marathon events in major cities, as the current preparedness has been dissatisfactory, which calls for continuous improvement. The top risks concerns in marathon bombing are associated with crowd control, contingencies, bomb threats, and medical emergencies. The study findings affirm that marathon events in the US have encountered active shootings, logistical failures and delays in response when an emergency occurs. There is also a challenge in risk management strategies with many top concerns and issues not included in the set plan (Libber par.3). Thus, the authors call for enhancing communication and training of risk management staff to understand the
Surname 2 jurisdictional responsibilities. The NYS marathon should balance public safety and create a conducive athletic race environment. I affirm that the article has provided valuable information on the challenges and risks facing US marathon events. The New York City marathon planners can adopt the findings of this study to develop strategies that can be adopted to ensure the safety of the participants and the public is protected. Also, the Boston Marathon bombings remain a learning for the risk management officials to enhance security measures and protect the general public. However, there is evidence that it can be challenging to control the crowd, especially toward the end of the race. Risk management planners can address the issue by increasing awareness and training more security guards to protect those attending the event ( Security measures and prohibited items par. 5). The findings on dissatisfaction among participants on the preparedness levels serve as a basis for establishing a more dynamic and robust approach. NYC marathon needs to be planned on safety and security for the runners, spectators, staff, and volunteers, which should be prioritized. It requires the federal and city agencies to coordinate to ensure the safety of all people participating in the event. In summary, the article has shared a comprehensive knowledge of the challenges and risks facing marathon events in the US. It is a valuable resource that the stakeholders can adopt when planning for such events to reduce the risks of injuring the participants and spectators. NYC has been known for hosting many marathon events, which implies that it can use the findings obtained from the article to manage and effectively prepare for this event properly. The article's key findings show the need for continuous improvement and adoption of risk management practices to enhance the safety and security of this event. The NYC marathon can utilize the article's findings to address the safety concerns raised and focus on enhancing the experiences of
Surname 3 participants and spectators. Therefore, the article supports the learning materials on the strategies that should be adopted to enhance the safety of marathon events across the US .
