Leader Critique According to Kouzes and Posner Model. Critique of the leaders including strengths and/or weaknesses in light of the Kouzes and Posner model In Kouzes & Posner’s book “Everyday People, Extraordinary Leadership,” Kouzes & Posner presents five practices of exemplary leadership that help leaders succeed. These practices include “Modeling the Way, Inspiring a Shared Vision, Challenging the Process, Enabling Others to Act, and Encouraging the Heart” (Kouzes & Posner, 2021, p.11). Each practice inspires leaders to do inner work and invest in self-development. Based on the answers Belinda provided during her interview, there are signs that her leadership skills conform with Kouzes & Posner’s leadership practices, but not all. Belinda has the potential to develop her leadership skills further in alignment with Kouzes & Posner’s leadership practices. Modeling the Way, according to Kouzes & Posner, suggests that a leader is “a role model of the behavior they want from others, that leaders are clear about their values and make sure they walk the talk” (Kouzes & Posner, 2021, p.11). In a sense, Belinda addressed this during the interview. When asked about her core values and how they reflect what she does as a leader, Belinda responded that her “core values are to treat others as she would want to be treated and to go above and beyond the expectations of her employees” (Belinda, 2023). She does this by building her team on the positive and strengthening them on their weaknesses. Belinda also described her leadership style as a servant leader. She likes to lead by example by letting her team know and seeing what she is willing to do. Kouzes & Posner state that “Values serve as guides to action. They inform your decisions about what to do and what not to do. They help you to know when to say yes when to say no, and to understand why you made that choice” (Kouzes & Posner, 2021, p.27). Belinda exemplifies this practice as she leads her team through major and minor decisions that have to be made.
