CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT 2 Classroom Management Classroom management makes learning and the process of teaching, for it enables a teacher to set their goals and devise ways to execute them. It promotes effective education since the teacher can deliver classwork and ensure that the students are attentive. A disorderly classroom makes it difficult for a teacher to teach since the students will not know what to do and may lose concentration in class. The teachers will spend most of their time directing the students and urging them to focus; these activities are time consuming and disruptive. Classroom management also enables consistency among the students, and the teacher, as the student, will understand what is required of them; the teacher, on the other hand, will understand what the students need. There is a little room for misbehavior in the classroom since the students know that their teacher is the one in charge. They will understand where the boundaries between them and the teacher are set and the consequences if they cross the boundary. Therefore, classroom management affects learning in students. Effective classroom management creates a conducive platform for learning. It ensures productivity in the classroom since it prevents the teacher from burnout and stress. The students can be disorganized; this might cause the teacher to yell and reprimand the students. This discipline methods are stressful and can cause a rift between the teacher and the learners. A classroom with proper management skills enhances learning that is proper for social and emotional development. Learning can only happen when the teacher has established a specific set of rules that should be followed. For example, a teacher may state that no one should speak without the teacher’s permission when the class is in session. Not allowing students to speak will prevent unnecessary discussion and noise-making, this makes it easier for the students to be attentive and for the teacher to teach (Aliakbari & Bozorgmanesh, 2015). Delegating duties to
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT 3 students makes it easier for them to focus since they understand what they are supposed to do while in class. The tasks may include reading passages aloud in class or doing short assignments. To ensure that the students have a productive day in school, the teacher should ensure that their morning begins off well. The class should start with classroom games like the morning message, whereby teachers write the message on the board, and the students occupy on their journals. The teacher will look for spelling and grammar mistakes in their notes. Afterward, the students will discuss among themselves what they have written. The teacher can also take the students through the morning meeting, where they will discuss what they did last night (Cox, 2019). The tutor will guide the students through the first lesson; on completion, they will take a break for a few minutes then get back to class. These activities set the right mood for students as they will go home by the end of the day feeling refreshed. Making classroom management strategies and procedures include involving the students to understand what is acceptable in class and what is not. The teacher should discuss with the students how to draft fair rules in the classroom; these procedures may be created weekly or monthly. The class should frequently review the classroom rules to ensure that they have adhered to all of them. When unwanted behavior occurs in the classroom, the teacher should use verbal reprimands in a moderate tone to ensure that the student understands that their behavior cannot be tolerated. Whenever the students do not cause trouble in the classroom, the teacher should always praise them; for example, thank you class for being quiet the entire time. Also, intervening, as soon as the teacher spots unwanted behavior will prevent it from happening in the future (Aliakbari & Bozorgmanesh, 2015). One can walk around the class, observing the actions of the students, and preventing it. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT 4 In brief, in some situations, teachers have limited time to complete their syllabus. They need to devise strategies that will allow them to deliver their lessons effectively and on time. To achieve this, a teacher needs to design proper classroom management as it permits effective teaching. It creates a pleasant teaching atmosphere where the teacher can teach peacefully, and the learners understand the class content. It prevents unwanted behavior; this involves setting a specific rule that the students should follow in class. The regulations include how the students are expected to conduct themselves in the classroom. In all classrooms, students are not supposed to make noise or talk when their teacher has not instructed them. Students should be attentive and perform all the tasks delegated to them by their teacher. The teacher should counter all potential misbehaviors; this includes reprimanding the students verbally to let them know that their behavior will not be tolerated. After classes, the students should be allowed to go on a recess for a few minutes; afterward, all of them should get back in class.
