Discuss the role of ethics in advertising and promotion. How do ethical considerations differ from legal considerations in developing an integrated marketing communications program? Provide an example. Ethics play a large role when it comes to advertising and promotion. Advertising and promoting a certain product or service needs to be ethical by providing honest and accurate descriptions. It is also focused on being truthful, fair, and keeps social responsibility. Ethical considerations and legal considerations are in the same family, but different as ethical is not something that someone can normal take legal action against. A company might be operating unethically, but could be following the laws. There are many laws that have been put into place to make sure a company does follow ethics, though. If an advertisement is unfair and deceptive by being unethical, they may be able to take legal action against said company. Although, there are limits to the law, it can not make companies or organizations be honest and fair in their advertising. For example, the company TOMS, who is a shoe company, has donated millions of shoes to those in needs. They use this to advertise their brand that by buying their shoes, it will help them donate to more of those in need. This may push someone to purchase their shoes over another brand's. This is ethical as they do donate many of their shoes and use it to advertise, but they do not show who they are donating to, which could be unethical to show the actually receivers of the donated shoe.
