How will your knowledge of language acquisition theories enable you to support the ELLs in your
classroom? Provide 1-2 specific examples of how you will apply language acquisition theories
into your teaching.
My knowledge of language acquisition theories will enable me to support ELLs in my
classroom by applying them and providing activities that assist ELL students in learning.
The Interactionist Theory will involve students in collaborating to complete assignments and
projects together.
This would allow them to use their social skills to improve their
interpersonal and intrapersonal skills while increasing their language acquisition skills.
Using the language interactively helps students to effectively learn the second language.
A
specific example of how I would apply this to teaching is to have my students grouped
according to their linguistic ability and have them create a poster detailing the concepts that
they are learning in their English or Math class.
Collaboration will increase their social skills
and focusing on the current concepts will reaffirm the concepts and assist with additional
exposure to the vocabulary.
This could be specific to a book that they are reading/listening to
or even describing the process of finding the sale price in Consumer Math.
