Report
Observation and Reflection of Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) 25 points (10 points for log, 15 points for reflection) You will spend at least 10 hours observing a speech language pathologist (SLP) provide services to students with language disorders. Observations may be of more than one SLP in multiple settings (classroom, office/therapy room, home or community site), however the SLP must be providing IEP and consultative services through a school district – not private practice. If possible, at least one observation should take place in an inclusive setting. I. For each observation, provide the following information: A) Description of setting(s) observation took place in B) What time of day, and for how long C) Description of age, gender, ethnicity, etc. of children observed (do not give names) D) Description of any collaborative interactions with adults (e.g. teachers, parents, administrators) E) Services provided (e.g. 1:1 therapy, group therapy, support in inclusive setting, consultation, assessment, participation in IEP or SST meeting) F) Activities observed (articulation therapy, communication and language instruction, AAC training, formal assessment for eligibility, etc.) II. Reflection Write a 1-2 page reflection on your observations. Discuss the activities and interactions you observed, and what you learned from them. How did the observations inform, change, or confirm your understanding of the role of the SLP? How will you better be able to collaborate with an SLP to provide transdisciplinary instruction to students with disabilities? How will these observations assist you in providing language instruction to students with disabilities in your own teaching practice?
