Explain the concept of a problem-solving court and provide examples of effective problem-
solving courts.
I believe that the list has both positive and negative impacts. Megan’s Law was put into place in 1996
and requires sex offenders to register in any area that they live in (Worrall, 2019). This database allows
for society to be able to understand who they live with, if a sex offender follows the rules.
Unfortunately, with this issue, there are both positive and negative impacts to society on this matter.
On a positive note, the safety of the public is the top priority in these situations. People are made
aware when a sex offender moves into their area of an area close to them. Or for that matter, it helps
them identify areas most specifically that they need to pay extra attention to their children. It is very
important for people to know this information as children need to be protected. From a negative
impact, there is discussion and some data that shows sex offender notifications can increase
recidivism rates (Montgomery, 2018). On another note, it is considered a federal offense when sex
offenders do not register. If the punishment fits the crime, then it is reasonable in the eyes of most
people.
