Census Confidentiality Act
This law ensures that all data from the Census Bureau is kept secret.
There are repercussions if you give census information to people who are not entitled to it.
Protects individuals who participate
in the census by ensuring that their responses are kept confidential and cannot be disclosed to other government agencies or the public.
The Census Confidentiality Act is usually overseen by lawyers, compliance workers, or other people whose job is to ensure that federal privacy laws are followed. This could be people who work for the Census Bureau, for groups that handle census data, or deal with the Bureau in some other way.
Freedom of Information Act
(1966)
This law lets people ask for details about government agencies so that everything is open and clear. Unless one of the nine exceptions applies, the information that was asked for must be given.

All US citizens would have to follow these rules to protect private information.
When private information is stored in government computer systems, the Department of Justice controls the cases.
