2 Activity: Critical Analysis There are biased beliefs that social media is beneficial for teenagers and adolescence for communication and having more social support for a teenage or adolescent to reach out to their peers, or someone else when they cannot reach out to their caregiver is a positive factor of social media use. Although, some people think that social media is very dangerous for teenagers and adolescence from the negative consequences of prolonged use, being more subjectable to bullying or having false expectation. Social media should be limited in teenagers and adolescence. The time spent on social media should be limited, and the content they are accessing should be monitored. Due to the increased risk of exposure to harmful content, it could promote negative behaviors in an individual or having false expectations about looks, or weight. Being exposed to harmful contents, such as drug or alcohol use, eating disorders, or being bullied or bullying. Another one individual could change a person’s values on how they see themselves or how they view the world. An important factor to consider while inspectors is to acknowledge that that young people have a different maturity rate, and some may be more vulnerable to the content and features on social media than others. (“APA Panel Issues Recommendations for Adolescent Social Media Use,” 2023) The advancements and technology have made social media platforms, Internet , and devices, such as cell phones, laptops, and tablets devices that most all individuals have or have access to. While today with schools, GPS systems, crisis situations and even shopping requires apps and Internet usage. It can make it difficult to monitor a young individual’s usage on social media. The Biden Harris administration has announced additional actions into young individuals, privacy, health, and safety from online harms the increase rate of young individuals’ mental health concerns. (House, 2023).
3 Activity: Critical Analysis Having three children of my own, and with them all having access to the Internet, phones and tablets, my personal goal is to monitor their usage in the content they have access to on the Internet. I can do this by communicating with them and letting them know that not everything they see on the Internet is true and encourage them to talk to me about any questions on anything they might have seen. I also can limit their usage on their devices by having more family time doing activities, such as boardgames or just sitting together as a family during mealtimes. Think this can promote their social wellness to be able to have more in person social skills. And could also be beneficial to their emotional wellness by them not being the victim of social bullying or making sure they get adequate sleep at night.
