6-2 Activity: Reflection Society By critically, analyzing the pros and cons of social media in the effects, it has on adolescence and teenagers has helped me gain a better understanding on the issues. This subject affects me both personally with myself and my children. It also affects the people around us. With technologies advancements, and so many different social platforms and gaming systems, which also have a social network in their own, an individual can lose themselves or obtain unhealthy habits by having excessive use of these technologies and platforms. Technology and the social platforms were a better way to communicate, and while they are, there are also dangerous consequences and influences that could lead to negative behaviors in teenagers and adolescence. Another negative consequence could be spending too much time on this social media platform, and not obtaining enough, personal social interactions or family time or getting adequate amounts of sleep. If I were to use history lens on social media and technology, we may consider more positive feedback due to the more convenient changes that have been made in technology. From personal experience when I was a teenager, we did not have smart phones, or they were so easily accessible. Internet was also different when I was young, we did not have fast Wi-Fi or wireless connection making a person to access Internet virtually anywhere. The Internet has made positive changes throughout history, such as GPS systems, the ability to track your children’s locations, order things online, or even being accessible to a better support group of people that an individual may need. Growing up in a small town, where everybody knows everybody main bias, I had was that people were kind, racism was not an issue, as I was a minority in my school, and people looked out for one another. After getting older and moving to new places, and even experiencing, behaviors and statements made on social media sites. That attitude has changed drastically.
6-2 Activity: Reflection Society Realizing that all people are not kind, and that racism is in fact an issue. Has been in educating experience for me. Having awareness of this bias that everyone is kind has made me more careful on who I can trust or can expect from someone it has also proven on social media sites that not all people are kind, and there are individuals who say hateful things and influence bad behaviors, especially in children and adolescence. By using this cognitive bias and learning from it, it has taught me about how people treat others or act in certain environments you are used to a certain behavior you form your own constructs on reality based on your experiences. It would help me be able to understand individuals more, by having knowledge of different issues or circumstances such their social status or their culture differences. It is also important to have a diverse attitude when working with individuals in a mental health setting. All individuals are different and handle stress and emotions differently, it is important to understand the individuals and make sure to see things from their perspective. Mental health is connected to communications on so many levels, as everyone can experiences mental health issues no matter their, social status, culture, or age. It is important to understand others, viewpoints, and their perspectives
