IT 640 Final Milestone One

Network Applications:
One of the top priorities of a network consultant is to determine if the
current network architecture has the right security protocols, structure and design to execute an
organization’s end goals. SNHUEnergy Inc., a company that has an office in Dallas as well as
Memphis, have two different networks to meet their needs. Dallas is home to more technology as
well as employees. Technology which includes: a server farm and two switches that are
connected to a router. This router connects to the firewall which is linked to office applications,
end-users and the network to the Internet. The following are the applications of the current
network: payroll, accounting, e-mail and human resources. Meanwhile, the Memphis office is
smaller, is connected to the Dallas services and houses the billing and operations network
applications.

security guard for a secure and private network. Its priority is to protect the network from outside

forces from the router to the Internet. The router connects the internet to the secure network
while the switches hold everything together for the network. From here, all of the servers,
applications, wireless access points connect to the switches that are connected to the router.
Network Analysis:
On a typical day, Memphis is home to thirty employees that deal with billing
and operations. Since Dallas’s router ties directly to the internet, Memphis needs its sister
location live and online to keep the money following and resources doing what they need to.
Dallas, on the other hand, is a bit bigger than the Memphis office and holds the main server,
payroll, accounting and HR systems. With the current system set up like it currently is, if there is
only one switch or router that goes down in Memphis, the company as a whole runs the risk of
losing key portions of HR, payroll, accounting, operations and more. Having only one firewall
also puts massive strain on the Dallas office to keep things secure. Seeing as it is the companies
only secure route to the internet, if the firewall were to go down, tons of personal information is
at risk of being corrupted or stolen.
Project Summary:
There are a few requirements that need to be met in order to make the
network work at peak efficiency. There needs to be a second router and firewall added to the
Memphis office. A router can then be linked to the router at the Dallas office to have a way to
use the applications from Dallas and a second router and firewall can be connected to the ISP for
access to the internet. This will enable Dallas to complete tasks from the Memphis office if their
internet was down. Adding another switch to the Memphis office to backup the current switch
and that office would be able to grow.
