between privacy and confidentiality. Discuss how security is related to privacy and
confidentiality.
ANSWER:
Privacy, Confidentiality, and Security
Privacy and confidentiality are both important aspects of healthcare and are
often interchangeable however there are important differences between the
two terms. According to Warren and Brandeis article in fundamentals of law
book, privacy is an important social value that was first introduced in legal
terms in 1890. The legal term is called the right to privacy. Confidentiality is
data or information that is not made available or disclosed to unauthorized
persons and processes. This insures and establishes how records should be
protected from inappropriate access (Brodnik et al., 2017). Another
important aspect of protecting consumers is security.
Security is related to privacy and confidentiality by pertaining to the physical
and electronic protection of information (2020). There are three prospectives
that define security. These perspectives are security related to data,
information, and systems (Brodnik et al., 2017). The three most common
security uses Encryption, di-identification, and Tokenization (2020). Security
is needed to maintain privacy and confidentiality.
