Databases are used in all types of professional environments and help us
make business decisions. For example, a database might help a business
keep information about customers. This can help inform decisions.
Create one initial post and follow up with at least two response
posts.
For your initial post, address the following:
How do you think a database can help you solve business problems?
What types of businesses might use a database? For what?
I think a database could help solve business problems by keeping all the
data organized. So, it is easier to keep track of all the transactions and it
would provide information that would help the company run the business
more efficiently. The types of businesses that come to mind when I think of
databases are personal cloud storage and Government organizations.
Personal Cloud Storage They are remotely storing your data so you could
access it anytime. Government Organizations are collecting information on
climate, law compliance, surveillance, and national security to list a few.
Respond to
at least two
of your classmates' posts. When choosing posts
to respond to, consider which of your peers' posts you relate to the
most.
Address the following when responding
:
What is the value of having a database versus not having one? When
would you want one (or not want one)?
Your responses should show that you've thought about what your peers'
initial posts stated. Your responses should continue the conversation, offer
new ideas, and ask questions if something doesn't make sense, if
necessary.
One advantage
is it improves the data sharing and all the employees
productivity. It also provides a greater security and privacy of data. It
ensures that you have a consistency of data.
One disadvantage
is the cost of maintaining the database with the
hardware, training, licensing, and having skilled employees.
You would want a database for kids in school and for your customers
records and the sales information.
Hi Yolanda,
I agree with you that a bank and a corporate business would benefit from having a database for
tracking the information needed. I think having a database improves data sharing and all the
employees' productivity. Another is that it provides greater security and privacy of data. I think
a disadvantage would be the cost of maintaining the database with the hardware, training, and
licensing. In this scenario, I think having a database is the way to go.
Hi Vlad,
This is a good example of a database in a retail environment. I agree that
the database would keep track of the inventory and customer purchases.
But I think a disadvantage of this database would be the cost of
maintaining the database with the hardware, training people, and paying
for the licensing. But I do think having the database would be the way to
go for retailers.
