Addressing Emerging Technologies
Emerging technologies are typically developed and researched by a wide range of
entities, including governments, private companies, academia, NGOs (Non-Governmental
Organizations), and research institutions. I am going to be explaining how each of these entities
contributes to the development of emerging technologies. Many governments around the world
actively invest in and support the development of emerging technologies. They often fund
research, provide grants, and establish policies and regulations to promote the growth of key
technology sectors, such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and renewable energy.
Additionally, some governments have their own research and development agencies and labs that
work on cutting-edge technologies for defense, healthcare, and other strategic purposes.
Universities and academic institutions are at the forefront of research into emerging technologies.
Professors and students in various fields conduct research and experiments, often with funding
from both government grants and private industry partnerships. Academia is vital for the early-
stage development of technologies and for educating the next generation of researchers and
innovators. Non-governmental organizations often play a role in advocating for the responsible
and ethical development of emerging technologies. They may conduct research, raise awareness
about potential risks, and engage with governments and industry to ensure that these
technologies are used for the benefit of society and do not harm the environment or human
rights. These organizations can be government-funded or private entities dedicated to advancing
specific areas of research. They often collaborate with academia and industry to conduct
specialized research on emerging technologies. Examples include the Max Planck Society in
Germany and the Fraunhofer Society, which are known for their contributions to various
technological fields.
These emerging technologies have been funded through various means such as grants,
crowdfunding, crowdsourcing, and competitions. They receive these grants from the government
and private foundations to research emerging technologies. Government agencies such as the
National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States fund these emerging technologies. You
also have the European Commission’s Horizon program and the National Science Foundation of
China.
Consumers will experience the effects of these changes because there will be a significant
change in electronics, and changes in e-commerce and online services will become part of our
daily lives. Artificial intelligence and automation will continue to transform the labor market and
jobs that were previously available to people will be taken over by AI. This will force workers to
adapt and become more skillful in their areas. Online learning will be more virtual, and we will
have more personalized learning technologies. Researchers and Scientists will be impacted by
the use of AI and Quantum computing which would lead to faster discoveries of scientific
theories.
AI will be the most addressed because it affects so many markets. Healthcare, vehicles, finance,
manufacturing,
and cybersecurity are all things that will be affected in the market. We are going
to potentially have AI-powered diagnostics which will lead to discoveries such as drugs. AI in
finance will help automate trades and customer service. Self-driving cars are something we are
already witnessing, and they are only going to evolve. We have 3D printing that can help us in
the medical field, and it is evolving as well. In the cybersecurity field, AI is helping us with
threat detection, incident response, and communication.
We need to be able to maximize and minimize the risk of emerging technologies by
looking at ethical development, regulation and governance, public awareness, and privacy.
Develop technologies with a strong commitment to ethical and responsible practices, considering
potential consequences on individuals, society, and the environment. Establish clear and
adaptable regulations that foster innovation while ensuring safety, security, and ethical use. Raise
awareness among the general public about the implications of emerging technologies, enabling
informed decision-making and critical thinking. Enforce robust data protection regulations to
safeguard individuals' privacy and data security. Give users more control over their personal data
and ensure informed consent for data collection.
