Transmedia/Cross-Platform Storytelling
Proposal (Group)
Transmedia/Cross-Platform Storytelling Proposal (Group)
Assignment
RTA102/RTA108 - Media Message Design (developm…
TT
Goal:
Create an immersive, impactful, and accessible/inclusive transmedia/cross-platform
storytelling proposal for your client organization; prepare a presentation/slide deck that
communicates your vision.
Guidance and Method/Process:
This assignment aims to model the experience of developing cross-platform media
content and strategy in the industry. Although your group's media company/agency has
already been 'hired' by your client organization (and you've been creating content for
them all term), you should approach this task as though you are pitching a new
project/phase to them. This project/phase is your vision for a broader, more immersive
and integrated storytelling/content plan.
The goal is to be both
creative and strategic in developing your proposal. This is a chance
to take what you've learned about your client organization and audience throughout the
course so far… and to dig a bit deeper one last time. Your group is required to choose a
minimum of 3 media platforms that will comprise your strategy and storytelling. You can
certainly have a few more, but the goal is not to have too many pieces of content
scattered across too many different platforms. You can include content forms/platforms
that we've explored in class (i.e. PSA for radio broadcast) but the aim is not to take all of
your existing content and present a plan to now connect it all. You are strongly
encouraged to bring other platforms (social media, etc.) that will be particularly impactful,
immersive, and relevant into the mix.
Other considerations/suggestions:

aim to select platforms and content forms that will best support your creative
vision.
strongly consider what platforms and content forms will most suit your
organization's story/messaging and have the best chance of reaching and
connecting with your target audience.
think through what content will appear on each platform and how each platform
and/or piece of content will work together to create an experience that is greater
than the sum of each part.
deeply consider how you can create and share your content in ways that allow
audience members with disabilities (blind, partially sighted, low vision, deaf, hard of
hearing, etc.) to both access as well as engage meaningfully with and enjoy it.*
*It is beyond the scope of this assignment to fully address all types of accessibility
concerns in your proposal. Your project should demonstrate an understanding of the
considerations and strategies involved in making content more inclusive and accessible
and an effort to incorporate some of them (We will learn more about this in Week 11's
lecture/lab).
while you can seek inspiration and success stories in existing transmedia/cross-
platform media (content and strategies), aim to imagine how your plan will be
unique, push the boundaries of what is currently being done, and challenge your
audience in new ways.
Please note: there is no dedicated process work grade/evaluation for this assignment but
it will be a good idea to apply the strategies you've practiced throughout the course to
complete it. As always, it's also recommended that you keep a copy of process
work/brainstorming/research to demonstrate how and what group members are
contributing and as an overall back-up system (in Google Drive).
Deliverables and Requirements:
1) A 'professional' and polished slide deck that effectively and dynamically communicates
your transmedia/cross-platform storytelling content strategy
The slide deck should be approximately 10-15 slides and can be prepared with
Google Slides, Powerpoint, Canva, Prezi, etc. Slides should be visually appealing, and
communicate necessary information for your cross-platform media plan clearly and
succinctly. Ensure you are not crowding them with too much/paragraphs of text and
that you use a mix of text and images/other media.
2) A recording of your group remotely 'presenting' your proposal/slide deck
The presentation should be 10-15 minutes (but 15 minutes max.) and we should be
able to see and/or hear all group members. You can record through Zoom, Canva,

another tool you prefer, etc.
3) A short, written synopsis (approximately 350 words) that summarizes your presentation
and other clarification/ supporting documents (as needed).
Your overall submission package should include the following components:
A summary of your 3 (or more) selected media platforms
A brief description of what content will appear on each
platform and what stories/parts of the story each of the
pieces/forms of content will tell (what experience you will
create)
An explanation as why you've chosen these platforms and how
they all work together to create impactful messaging for your
client organization
and a dynamic experience for your target
audience.
A description of how your content will be compelling
but also
accessible to a broader range of audience members within your
target demographic.
Your slide deck & short written summary should be saved in PDF format, well-formatted,
in a readable font, and error-free. Please ensure that any links are functional. Include your
group name or title, the names of all team-members and indicate which group member
served as project manager for this assignment.
