Assignment 4 Dropbox Area command is a component of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and it serves as an organizational structure for managing multiple incidents or a specific group of incident management teams. This is activated when there are multiple emergency situations happening at once and it exceeds the capabilities of local first responders. One of the primary functions of Area Command is to coordinate the response and manage different resources across multiple incidents. It works with all emergency management teams operating within the area as well. The command staff is an important component in the Incident Command System (ICS) which is used for effective emergency response and incident management. Each member of the Command Staff holds a specific position and performs distinct job functions during an emergency. The first position the command staff has is a Public information officer (PIO). The PIO is responsible for the communication of information between the incident, the public, media, and other agencies involved. The PIO works closely with the liaison officer as they serve as the primary point of contact in the incident. Another staff involved in this command is the Safety Officer who is responsible for supervising and ensuring the safety of all personnel involved in the incident. The last command staff that is involved is the Incident Management Team coordinator (IMT). The IMT Coordinator supervises all the activities of multiple incident management teams operating within the same emergency.
