2 Assignment 2.4 Vugrin Google has developed a new tool to generate business insights. The biggest challenge that companies face these days managing copious amounts of data over a vast amount of space. It is a great cost to the company especially when data needs to be moved. Google has nicknamed this project as Big Lake. The goal of this project is to unify an enterprise’s full data warehouses and lakes to view data without worrying about an underlaying storage format. According to vice president of database, data analytics and Looker at Google cloud, Gerrit Kazmaier, BigLake’s use of data analyzing will eliminate need to move mass amounts of data or duplicate information which, overall, will reduce the cost and resources from a source. In the article Kazmaier also mentioned the fact that customers will also gain access controls with open-source file formats as well as anything that can be found on Google Cloud’s platform (Ghoshal, 2022). Google Cloud has also mentioned an additional tool they created a new Change Data Capture feature which they called Spanner Change Streams. The new tool in question will allow a company to update, insert, or delete data in real time. With low latency commands changes in databases are instantaneous (Ghoshal, 2022). In my previous assignment I mentioned the use of cloud computing and how it is going to be the future of database access. This article proved that we are well on our way to that reality. Another advantage of cloud computing is the fact that it exists in a way that can be accessed remotely from a multitude of devices. For example, I usually store all my assignments in my OneDrive. If I am at work with some free time I can log into my account and work on my assignments, or if I am on the road riding in the car, I can do the same thing. It also makes things like PowerPoint presentations easier to access and distribute more fluidly. This is the reason more places, businesses, and families are going to cloud based infrastructures.
