IEP Meeting Plan
Before the Meeting:
1. Parent/Guardian Responsibility:
- Review the initial evaluation report and any other relevant assessments or documents.
- Identify any concerns or updates you want to discuss during the meeting.
- Contact the IEP team members (e.g., teachers, specialists, administrators) to gather their input
or reports.
- Request any additional evaluations or assessments if needed.
2. School Staff Responsibility:
- Schedule the IEP meeting and ensure all necessary team members are invited.
- Provide the parent/guardian with a copy of their rights and procedural safeguards.
- Gather input from teachers, specialists, and other relevant staff regarding the student's progress and needs.
- Prepare any necessary assessment reports or documentation.
During the Meeting:
1. Parent/Guardian Responsibility:
- Attend the meeting and actively participate in the discussion.
- Share any concerns, observations, or updates about the student.
- Ask questions and seek clarification when needed.
- Provide input in the development of goals, accommodations, and services.
2. School Staff Responsibility:
- Facilitate the meeting and ensure a collaborative and respectful environment.
- Review and discuss the results of the initial evaluation with the parent/guardian.
- Ensure that each section of the IEP is discussed by the entire team and that everyone agrees with the language and decisions that are being made during the meeting. -
Determine if the student meets eligibility criteria for special education services.
