Phase 1 of Final Project Assignment: Research Paper Initial Draft Cody Smith 4WI2023 Information Systems Infrastructure
General Motors Corporation is a large automotive manufacturer based in Detroit, Michigan. This business has provided vehicles to the public for 115 years and is still a leader in the world market for automobiles. The business employees more than 165,000 people across the globe and provides services to six continents (General Motors, 2023). The company’s mission statement is “driving the world forward, together” and General Motors Corporation lives up to the statement in many ways. General Motors puts their customers first by providing above and beyond customer service. Warrantying their vehicles and providing mechanical support for the consumer is one way General Motors ensures they are taking care of the customers. They vow to put their customers at the center of all decisions that the business makes. General Motors wants to be an inclusive business that provides the best vehicle possible to all countries and people. They ensure they can accomplish this goal by providing vehicle support to a wide variety of countries. People know they can count on General Motors to make them their number one priority and this mentality has built a brand loyal consumer base. The executive team at General Motors has a plan to electrify the world and reduce carbon emissions drastically over the next several years (General Motors, 2023). Not only is the management team pushing the battery automobile and trying to prefect the electric automobile, the team is developing home based products as well. The company wants to provide in home charging stations for their vehicles that have a solar aspect to their design as well as a high efficiency battery storage system that could be used to power your home in an emergency or to save on your utility bills (GM Energy, 2023). This is a new technology that is in development
and provides the General Motors customer with a service that no other automobile manufacturer is going to provide. General Motors Corporation has always used the latest technology to provide an exceptional product to its customer. There are many current technologies that General Motors uses to provide an edge over the competition. The wind tunnel is one emerging technology that provides an aerodynamic advantage over the competition. This technology helps General Motors design a vehicle with an “air cushion” that provides better miles per gallon, less wind noise, and road vibrations that can affect the way the driver interacts with the vehicle (GM Authority, 2023). This system uses many sensors to monitor the air that flows over the body of the vehicle and allows the engineers to see the air interact with the vehicle in real time. This data allows the engineering team to manipulate the body of the vehicle to provide maximum efficiency as well as improve the driving experience. The future is in control of artificial intelligence. Well not really, General Motors uses artificial intelligence as well as lane sensors and cameras in the autonomous vehicles that are nicknamed super cruise. This new developing technology is not available to the public as of now. This technology will allow the driver to become the passenger. The computer systems will be able to manage the driving aspects and make decisions on braking, steering, and accelerating. The occupants of the vehicle will be free to do whatever they please within the vehicle. This technology will reduce accidents and provide a more efficient system of travel for the general public. Super cruise is currently being developed but a simple version is currently available on higher optioned models. Although not completely autonomous, the current configuration allows adaptive braking, lane assistance, parking assistance, and adaptive cruise control (GM Authority, 2023).

Cameras are everywhere and vehicles are not an exception. This technology is used to provide the driver with a 360 degree look around their vehicle as well as recording interactions with other vehicles to ensure legality can be proven in an accident. General Motors has taken this technology to the next level by providing an all-around monitoring system that provides protection when the vehicle is in motion but also when the vehicle is stopped. When the alarm is activated the cameras turn on and record the general vicinity around the vehicle to ensure anyone tampering with the automobile will be recorded. Also any natural occurring damage such as windblown limbs or hail can be documented and turned in on insurance (GM Authority, 2023). References General Motors.
