An environmental law that affects most of the residents of Arizona is emissions inspection program. The state of Arizona requires residents that live in the metropolitan areas of Tucson and Phoenix to have an emissions inspection annually after the vehicle is a few years old. Arizona made this air quality law in order to maintain good air quality and avoid unnecessary pollution. This requirement was established in 1967 under the Division of Air Pollution Control. Failure to pass the emissions inspection means the registered owner of the vehicle can not register the vehicle until the vehicle can pass the emissions inspection.
The emissions inspection program is effective in making sure vehicles that are not compliant with the emissions standards are not to be registered or driven until they are compliant. This law helps maintain good air quality in Arizona.
The emissions inspection program is not as effective as it could be due to people cheating the system. There are many residents that attempt to circumvent the inspection by registering their vehicle in an area that does not require the emissions inspection. This program could be more effective if it was required for all residents of Arizona to participate.

Over time, society has viewed the environment and its importance differently. Hundreds of years ago, far before the industrial revolution, the earth was full of a seemingly endless supply of land and animals. As societies grew and expanded throughout their respective lands, they realized that there really was a limit to what a land could provide to sustain life. Soon enough, groups of people began expanding further to different countries, then crossing oceans to different continents. It seems like as people expanded their lives, we have all come to know just how sacred the earth is. Even just since I was a kid in the 90’s, the shift of how people treated the environment is astounding. I remember growing up with a neighbor who had the biggest truck that blew out the darkest smoke when it started up. Over time, people started to realize the negative affect our lifestyles had on the environment. It is nice to see now how more people are working toward renewable energy sources and putting more thought into each choice. It seems like every other house in my neighborhood has a roof lined with solar panels.
God created the earth with all humans in mind. He intended for Adam and Eve to live in the Garden and care for the plants and animals. After the fall, He kept the two in charge, but then
gave them the duty to care for the whole earth, then for their children to care for it, and so
on. 1 Chronicles 28:8 says “Be careful to follow all the commands of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever.” Especially since having children, I am trying to be more conscious of the earth that I live in and the condition it will be in when I pass. Ultimately, this isn’t our planet, it’s God’s, and we are simply taking care of it for Him.
