Aneshea DeSuza Professor Mark John Field Experience in Criminal Justice II 24th November 2023 FINAL REPORT As my time as an intern in the field of fingerprint analysis comes to an end, I can't help but think back on the priceless lessons that have molded this pivotal period in my career. I've had the honor of spending the last few months learning the nuances of fingerprint analysis from seasoned experts in the forensic evidence recovery team. This internship has turned out to be a crucial turning point in my professional development. Gaining practical experience in the field of fingerprint analysis was the main goal of the internship, and I can say with confidence that the experience has far beyond my expectations. I was tasked right away with collecting fingerprints for firearms, criminal records, and police records. Scanning the prints in the AFIS system was another duty assigned to me. The hands-on experience gave me a thorough grasp of the subtleties required in forensic fingerprint analysis, and I am appreciative of the mentorship and advice that made this learning curve easier. This internship has been of immense benefit to my career. The complexity of fingerprint analysis necessitates a special set of abilities beyond what can be learned from a textbook. I have improved my accuracy and attention to detail, two skills that are essential in the field of forensic science, thanks to this internship. My exposure to state-of-the-art techniques and technology has given me a competitive advantage that will definitely set me apart in the forensic fingerprint analysis sector.
Even while everything about the internship has been incredibly beneficial, it would be a mistake to ignore the difficulties that were faced. There were times when it was difficult to navigate the learning curve in a fast-paced, high-stakes setting. But it's because of conquering these obstacles that I've developed resilience and adaptability—qualities that are essential in every workplace. To sum up, this internship has been a life-changing experience that has strengthened my interest in forensic fingerprint analysis. My development as a professional in the industry has been greatly aided by the mentorship, I got in addition to the practical information I have acquired. I bring with me a multitude of experiences that will surely provide a solid basis for success as I go into the next part of my career. I would like to thank the whole staff of the forensic evidence recovery unit for their constant support and the wonderful chances they gave me throughout my internship.
