Assignment 11: Levels and Walls (Due Oct. 16

Step 1:
Open the file called “Assignment 11 Model”. This file is located in the “Assignment 11”
folder in the “Assignments” section of Canvas. This file needs to be opened using Autodesk
Revit. The opening view of the file is a default 3D view. If prompted, convert the file to the 2024
version of AutoCAD.
Step 2:
Right-click anywhere on the screen, place your cursor over “Browsers” and click on
“Project Browser”.
Step 3:
Double-click on the “East” elevation in the “Project Browser” to visualize the back
elevation view of the building.

Step 4:
Create a new level: Click on the “Architecture” tab and then click on “Level” on the
“Datum” panel.
Step 5:
Click in the active view to place the start of the “Level” line. Click again to the right of the
initial start line of the “Level” line. This second click will create a level line across the structure.
For this step, you can click anywhere on the structure. No need to select a specific elevation for
the line. Press “Enter” after completing the second click and completing the line. The new
“Level” line is shown in the red box below. Notice a new floor plan and level are populated in
the “Project Browser”.

Step 6:
Right-click on the “Level” line that was just created and select “Properties”.

Identify the default name of the newly created level.

Step 7:
Click the “View” tab and select the pull-down menu for the “3D View”. Select “Default
3D View”.
Step 8:
View the “West” Elevation (front of the building) using the “Project Browser”. (Right click
anywhere in the model, place the cursor over “Browsers” and select “Project Browser” to view
this window).

Using the different 3D view functions and elevations, determine the number of
doors located on the exterior of the building. North, 2

Return to the 3D Default View as described in Step 7. Open the “Project Browser”.

Action Item 5:
Using the “View Cube” and “Level” functions in the “Project Browser”, provide a
screenshot from the perspective of a person standing on the ground outside facing the North
side of the building.
Step 10:
Click on “Manage” tab and then click on the “Snaps” element. This interface allows
users to select snap targets similar to AutoCAD.
Step 11:
Close the Assignment 11 Model without saving. Open a “New Project” in Revit.
Step 12:
Click “View” tab and select the pull-down menu from “Plan Views”. Select “Floor Plan”
from the menu. The view must be in a plan view or elevation view in order to create gridlines.
Step 13:
Select “OK” for the default Architectural Plan type.

Step 14:
Click the “Architecture” tab and click on “Grid”.
Step 15:
Place a horizontal gridline by clicking once for the starting position and once for the
end. The gridline is given a default name.
Action Item 6:
Using the same methodology from Step 15, place another horizontal gridline 30
feet from the first line. Place two vertical gridlines spaced 30 feet that intersect with the two
horizontal gridlines. Provide a screenshot of your grid.

Step 16:
Select the “Architecture” tab and select the pull-down menu for “Wall”. Select “Wall:
Architecture”.
Step 17:
Click on the four intersection points of your grid to create a wall outlining the 30 ft. by
30 ft. square made by your gridlines. Press “Enter” after you have outlined the square to accept
the shape.

Action Item 7:
Click “View” and select the “3D Default View” in the “3D View” element. Provide
a screenshot of the 3D view of your created walls.
Step 18:
Select all four walls: Right-click on each wall while holding “Control” to select all four
walls.
Step 19:
Right click on the walls, select “Properties”.

Step 20:
Change the wall-type from a Basic Wall Generic 8-inch wall to a “Generic - 12”
Masonry”. Press “Apply” at the bottom of the “Properties” window.
