Case Study 2 – Modelling (Individual) Assessment (worth 25%)
Assessment Overview
Students are required to design the system they have analysed its requirements in Case Study 1
assessment using design and modelling techniques and tools. This assessment is designed to assess your understanding of systems design within a software system project. It contributes to learning outcomes 3, 4, and 5.
You are to work individually
and answer a set of questions related to the material of this unit. Any diagrams required in response to the questions must be drawn using Lucidchart. You may use either Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel to build the Gantt chart in Section 7. Textual responses will be written using Microsoft Word. This assignment is worth 25%
of the total marks for the unit.
The case study is the same for Case Study 1 – Requirements Analysis
and Case Study 2 – Modelling
and is provided in Case Study 1 – Requirements Analysis
specification.
You, as a systems analyst, are required to design the university library system and creating documents and diagrams.
Your report must contain at least the following sections:
1.
Introduction
: Include an improved version of the Use Case Diagram developed in Case Study 1 – Requirements Analysis
group assessment.
2.
Activity Diagrams
: Provide activity diagrams for three
use cases.
3.
System Sequence Diagram
: Provide system sequence diagrams for three
use cases.
4.
Domain Model Class Diagram
: C
reate the domain model class diagram of the
University Library Management System
.
5.
State Machine Diagram
: Provide state machine diagrams for two
objects of the system.
6.
User Interface
: Provide mock-up user interface design for three
use cases using Dialogues and Storyboards.
7.
Project Planning
: Provide a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and a Gantt chart for the first iteration of diagram of the University Library Management System
.
8.
Conclusion
: Provide a summary and recommendations.
Note that your UML diagrams will be assessed based on the completeness and consistency with the modelled scenario and appropriate use of UML notation.

Individual Assignments can take a range of forms including written reports, oral presentations, quantitative research reports, a range of computer programming exercises, reflective journals, spreadsheet models, conceptual models, and a range of software solutions or applications. All assignments must be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format and submitted via the Academic Integrity module of the Learning Management System. Hand-written assessments will not be accepted.
Individual Assignments typically comprise between 20% and 30% of marks allocated to each unit. Approximately 60% of the number of Individual Assignments a student will undertake are designed as formative assessment tools, in that students are required to undertake the assessment during the semester with the Individual Assignment providing feedback on academic progress and identifying any needs for additional support.
