2-1 Discussion: Hyper-V versus VMware
After reviewing the material for this week, I am leaning towards Microsoft’s Hyper-V. While both offerings from their respective organizations are comparable in the fact that they are hypervisors which allows the user to run and manage virtual machines on a computer each is different in the respective options and pricing. Another primary consideration for choosing Hyper-V is that I am already familiar with many Microsoft Products which would help with the learning curve that comes with using Hyper-V. Examining Hyper-V Collins's article “Hyper-V vs. VMware…” We can examine the many advantages and some of the disadvantages to utilizing Hyper-V. One of the points that I consider an advantage would be the fact that Hyper-V is included in Windows Server OS’s or can be purchased as a standalone product. Some of the listed positives to using include: easy backups, quick deployment of new virtual servers and no downtime during maintenance. References
