Why this court jurisdiction exists
Court jurisdiction of juvenile court exists to the fact that children and minors both lack moral and cognitive capacity that allows them to fully understand the consequences of their behavior. The goal of juvenile court jurisdiction is to divert minor offenders from the criminal court’s punishment that can seem as “destructive” and also encourages different types of rehabilitation based on the juveniles needs. But the proceeding of the juveniles should remain closed off from the public.
Importance of this court jurisdiction
The importance of jurisdiction is to ensure that all cases of individuals under the age of eighteen are processed within the
juvenile court. And that all decisions that regard all forms of rehabilitation and treatments for the older juveniles to be left in the hands of the court system. Issues that can arise from this court jurisdiction
There are several different issues that can arise from this type of jurisdiction such as the disruption of the psychosocial development of the young offenders that can come from the punishments that they received from within the system. A lot of the cases that are handled within juvenile court is mainly curfew violations, underage drinking, drug use and others. These type of offenses will lead to the possibility of harsh punishments for the juveniles and this could lead to the result of mental disturbances; and the juvenile will have a hard time getting a job in the future due to their criminal record.
