HIS 100 Module Five Activity Template: Historical Interpretations Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Identify the topic you chose to explore: Creation of the UN Describe how exploring your research question improved your understanding of the historical roots of your current event. I had to find as many information as I could on the historical roots first in order for it to make sense, especially because it would be the key to understanding how it somehow led to my current event. My research question helps understand where I am going and what I will be addressing which made it easier for me to know what I was looking for. I knew why the creation of the UN was necessary, but now I have a better understanding of its history, and how important it is. Finding all those necessary information did improve the historical roots of my current event. Explain how biased perspectives influence what is known about both your historical and current events. Depending on the sources ( people , book, primary , secondary), you may find bias, but if I take the topic itself, there is a lot of bias around it. For example , If I focus on my historical event for example , some say that the creation of UN was necessary, and came with positive changes. Others say that the UN only serve certain interests. In fact, they have not seen what the UN did for them and many around them which makes them question its existence. It sure will be the same for my current event. What to remember here is experiences, beliefs and assumptions make a lot difference and play an important role on how we see things. Propose how the narrative about your historical event might change if it were told from a missing perspective. When we miss some information, we usually speak or say things based on our own experience, and it goes the same with the narrative about my historical event. If we forget a little what we know, and re open minded to learn, research , explore more , it sure will change everything. The more information we get , the more our understanding grows and can change, and so the narrative. Also , sources vary in perspective, and some carry more weights than others which play an important role and might change a lot about what we think we know. Propose how the narrative about your current event might change if it were told from a missing perspective. The best way would be from those who are currently affected by the subject itself rather than basing it on what people think they know. For example, the UN says a lot about human rights. The organizations says that it is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace, but honestly is that true? The matter of human rights awakes a lot of questions. For instance, we see what is happening to African Americans. Imagine if the narrative is based on what others say or know about it ? Sure they can see that they know how hard it is for them and how society has not been fair . Overall , showing their empathy. , but there will still be missing perspectives. Now, imagine if the narrative is based on a person experiencing inequalities and or racial injustice? That changes the whole narrative. There will be more context supported with actual examples, experiences, and proof.
