HIS 100 Module Two Activity Template: Primary and Secondary Sources Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Non-graded portion : List your historical research topic here: Globalization o Creation of the UN Graded portion: Distinguish between primary and secondary sources. Primary sources : Created at a historical moment in time by someone who was somehow involved in the event. Example of primary sources : Letters, human-made objects( tools,clothing,art..), diaries, photographs, and more. Secondary sources: Written after the event has occurred by someone who was not involved. Example of secondary sources: Textbooks, edited works, books and articles, and more. Explain why it is important to consult a variety of sources when conducting historical research. Include specific details and examples. It is important to consult a variety of sources when conducting historical research to give ourselves multiple sources of facts , perspectives and opinions. Plus , it can allow us to weight the result of our research and for example see which one is accurate, how many people wrote about it and gives more insight on the subject we are researching on. It is always good to keep our options because it will give us the maximum of chance to find what we are looking for, and more. Not all sources of information which is why we should consult a variety of sources. Identify one primary source that would help investigate your research question (include the title, author, and link to the source). United Nations. (1945). . New York: United Nations, Ofce of Public Information. https://libguides.snhu.edu/c.php?g=1184812&p=8902740 Identify one secondary source that would help investigate your research question (include the title, author, and link to the source). Weiss, T. G. (2015). The United Nations: before, during and after 1945. , 91(6), 1221-1235 https://libguides.snhu.edu/c.php?g=1184812&p=8902740 Choose a current event related to the subject of your historical research question and explain how they are connected. We know how hard it has been, and still is for black people in America.I was reading an article about Din Jenkins Sr., deputy chief, Boston Housing Authority’s Police Division, where he shared his experiences with racial injustice in a presentation to the workforce on Jan. 4. That is when he realized that as a Black man, he would likely continue to experience such behaviors. NUWC Division Newport Public Afairs. (2023) . . 1
His first experience being ‘the only Black’ was when he was just 10 years old and was asked to play George Washington in the town’s Fourth of July parade. During the parade, while riding on a float, he heard someone in the crowd say, “I didn’t know George Washington was Black,” followed by laughter. That is when he realized that as a Black man, he would likely continue to experience such behaviors. I picked this article because it is an example or racism, and the international community adopted a convention. They committed to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination and to fight for human rights ( racial justice). Racial injustice is still ongoing and all UN Member States adopted this resolution on December 21,1965. United Nations Human Rights. (1965) UN General Assembly resolution 2106 (XX), https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/international-convention-elimination- all-forms-racial The connection between the article and my research question is that racial discrimination, injustice is still happening and the world still talks about it. Gladly , many nations from 51 member states have grown to 193 which put together (The UN ) fight against it and many other causes. I am glad that they exist. Without them and their mission, the world would not be what it is today. It is certainly not perfect yet, but it is good to know that somewhere people are fighting against all kind of discrimination, provide peace and maintain security. Plus, we see how important the subject of racial discrimination is . In fact , we had Martin Luther King Jr. and many more black activists fight for equal rights in America (For Black). which changed America and the world. The mission continues and I believe that the UN will achieve more. 2
