Some of the scientific achievements of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition include discovering over 100 new plant and animal species, mapping the new territory of the American West, and collecting data on the climate and geography of the region . The Lewis and Clark Expedition helped to open up the American West, and the Louisiana Purchase established the United States as a powerful economic force. The goal of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was to explore the American West with William Clark and Meriwether Lewis. The journey took place between 1804 and 1806. President Thomas Jefferson ordered the tour, which was among the first major explorations of the American West. The expedition also made significant diplomatic contacts with Native American tribes and established the United States as a major player in the global economy. The Lewis and Clark Expedition made several geographic firsts, including reaching the Pacific Ocean and demonstrating the impossible task of the Northwest Passage. Additionally, they gathered information about the region's topography and climate, which was useful in settling the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase refers to the United States' purchase of French imperial rights over the western portion of the Mississippi River basin in 1803. The agreement gave the United States exclusive rights to purchase the territory from its native residents through treaty or invasion. The development of fertile soil in the Louisiana area aided in the expansion of agriculture and the economy of our country. It gave Americans more chances to grow their farming regions and skill sets. Additionally, it made new commercial routes via the port of New Orleans and the Mississippi River possible.
