Introduction
a.
Why the college was chosen
I previously worked at Rutgers University; thus, I'd like to find out more about the
institution's past. Since it is one of only nine colonial colleges founded before the
American Revolution, it appears to have a lengthy history.
b.
History of the chosen college
The history of Rutgers, which was established in 1766, a decade before the
American Revolution. Queen's College was the old name of Rutgers University.
c.
The historical context of the topic
At Rutgers University New Brunswick's location held their first class in
November 1771. The objective of the college is to "educate youth in the learned
languages and in the Liberal and Useful Arts and Sciences," according to the
college's charter.
d.
Research question or thesis statement that will be investigated
What were the factors that facilitated the expansion of Rutgers from a small,
localized college into a comprehensive university system with multiple campuses
and diverse academic offerings?

Rationale
a.
Why the topic was chosen
This subject was chosen to provide a deeper knowledge of the factors that led to
Rutgers University's growth.
b.
What is significant about the topic
Studying Rutgers' change offers important insights into resource management,
higher education's complex dynamics, and the interactions between academic
institutions and their larger social and economic context.

What benefit or impact could occur as a result of this study
Having an understanding of how increased access to education, economic growth,
community development, and cultural and social impact are just a few of the
potential advantages and effects that Rutgers University could have on both the
university and the surrounding community, region, and beyond.
III.
Critical Analysis of the Topic

Define the policy, practice, curriculum, or philosophy of education that will be
specifically addressed
The curriculum of Rutgers University is extensive and covers a wide range of
topics.

The university is operational and has three locations in New Jersey: Biomedical
and Health Sciences (New Brunswick/Piscataway and Newark), Camden, Newark
and New Brunswick.

Comparison to literature
Paul Robeson was the third Black student to get a degree from Rutgers College in
1915. Rutgers trustees were finally persuaded to launch a school for women in
1918.
d.
Comparison to other school approaches
The Presbyterian Synod established the College of New Jersey, now known as
Princeton, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Princeton is the fourth-oldest college in the
US, having been founded in 1746.

changes, and state and government support are to blame for Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey, growing from a small, localized college into a
comprehensive university system.

initiatives, solidifying its position as a leading educational institution.
