During the early periods of exploration 1400-1650, the need for expansion and
conquering filled the eastern world. Exploration was on the mind of all important
leaders, whether it be the Spaniard or England, Portugal, France, vast rumors of
said wealth and fortune had brought hope and greed to those in power
(Corbett
et al., Ch. 2 -Early Globalization: The Atlantic World, 1492–1650 U.S. history).
Though this was just the tip of the berg. During this crucial time of exploration and
expansion there was a voice that was lost during globalization. Natives and the
people who were already currently inhibiting these lands were slowly being
controlled and taken advantage of. Life was becoming a nightmare for the natives
and lead to the mass genocide of population and abuse that would be unleashed
upon them.
Upon reading the chapter, an article Bartolome de Las Casas about what was
witnessed seemed to stick out and portray what the people who were sent to find
and explore ended up committing
(Corbett et al., Ch. 2 -Early Globalization: The
Atlantic World, 1492–1650 U.S. history). With goals of finding treasures and land,
the explorers stumbled across these gentle natives. Finding new land and people
who are already established here was intriguing to the explorers and lead to grime
intentions. Slavery was already in place during this time and was being used in the
east. It had given such power to the people to have slaves do the dirty work and
have little interest in their wellbeing. Because the explorers saw this as an
opportunity of power abuse to benefit them. Not only that, but the church was
becoming powerful and had their beliefs to back them up in the new world.
Greedy and seeing narrow minded, the natives were simply going to be saved with
their Christianity
(Corbett et al., Ch. 2 -Early Globalization: The Atlantic World,
1492–1650 U.S. history). These shy civilized people were complex and intelligent
people advance with their eco friendly living.
The natives who lived in the new world were bombarded with newcomers who
had intentions of hard rather than good. With little to no weapons the natives
could not compete against the explorers and their steel weapons and had to give
up what they had known. The newcomers imprisoned and enslaved those who
fought back or seemed fit for their needs working them to the bone. While being
in a struggle they were kept in terrible conditions and treated inhumanely. Not
that but they suffered at the hand of people who call themselves Christians.
Failing to convert or misinterpret the bible led to horrible beatings that could lead

to death if strike hard enough or repetition of beatings
(Corbett et al., Ch. 2 -Early
Globalization: The Atlantic World, 1492–1650 U.S. history).
The explorers overall had lost sanity as they voyaged across the ocean leading
to greed and giving in to power. With power hungry explorers the new world was
soon infected with what the East believed in. From slavery to those who were
lower than themselves and Christianity being pushed down the throats of natives.
This led to the death of many natives and crimes that were committed going
unnoticed.
