1910.212(a)(1): General Requirements for all Machines
According to
1910.212
of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), any
machines that create a hazard must be safeguarded in order to protect the operator and other
employees.
One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator in the
machina area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points,
rotating parts, flying chips, and sparks.
Examples of guarding methods are - barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety
devices, and more.
What if these regulations are not met?
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, if our products fail to comply
with OSHA regulations, it can lead to serious fines and legal problems. If an OSHA inspector
finds a violation, the agency issues a citation and proposes a penalty. The maximum penalties for
serious violations will increase from $14,502 per violation to $15,625 per violation. The
maximum penalty for willful or repeated violations will increase from $145,027 per violation to
$156,259 per violation.
How does this relate to our product?
If our product did not meet the OSHA regulations and requirements, we’d get the opportunity to
fix our product and make sure that it complies with OSHA regulations. If we were aware that our
product violates any of their regulations, we would be at risk of receiving penalties from the
OSHA and paying up to $15,000 per violation.
