RUNNING HEAD: Freedom 2 Abstract From 1773 to 1783 much has change in this great land. From dealing with ever increasing taxes against the colonies to finally standing up to Great Britain. In One voice we have said we are not going to surrender to the crown anymore. We have Rights as citizens of this great land. If Britain will not grant these to us we will untie and separate to for our own land where we can be guaranteed the right to live freely without fear or reprisal
RUNNING HEAD: Freedom 3 Tension had been steadily increasing between the British and the colonies over the last decade. The British keep trying to impose these revenue generating taxes, of which one was the Tea Act. It is almost as if they see us as a means to an end. They want to impose these unfair taxes on us yet the people of Britain get a reprieve. We showed our distaste for the British forcing these taxes upon us, we threw 0ver 300 chests into the Boston Harbor, ensuring the tea did not reach our shore. As word of this spread throughout the colonies. Patriots from allover were emboldened to do the same to tea in their harbors. The tea was either seized or dumped. Tea parties we taking place all over throughout 1774(The American Revolution). Women we aiding in boycotting the British goods, as they had a strong role in purchasing good for the home. Britain responded swiftly though, they took control of the Massachusetts government Dissolving the assembly and restricting town meetings. The Administration of Justice Act allowed royal officials accused of crimes to be tried in Britain rather than by Massachusetts courts and juries. The last of the major Acts imposed by Britain at this time was the Quartering Act, this allowed newly arrived British soldiers to be quartered in colonist’s homes. In 1774 we tried to voice our grievances with the British Crown, we denounce the taxation they imposed on us without representation. We declared that every citizen has the right to life, liberty, property, assembly and trial by jury(Locke, J. and Wright, B). Throughout 1774 and 1775 factions of individuals emerged as a resistance to the British, but In April of 1775 Local militia Clashed with the British Soldiers in Lexington and Concord. When the second continental congress convened Thomas Jefferson voted to form a continental Army.

RUNNING HEAD: Freedom 4 On May 10 1776 Congress voted calling colonies to establish a revolutionary government if they had not done so, Urging them to prepare new written constitutions. This was the beginning of our separation from Britain. Richard Henry Lee offered the following a few weeks alter: Resolved, That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, Free and Independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connexion between them and the state of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved(Locke, J. and Wright, B). On July 2 this finally came to a vote and was passed legally declaring our Independence, Congress worked on the Declaration until the document was approved on July 4 1776. I can still remember the Declarations preamble: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government(Locke, J. and Wright, B). This was a proud moment for me and a colonist, stating that we will not take the rule from Britain any more. We are all guaranteed certain rights and we will no longer be under your control. On June 17 with Washington at its lead the army inflicted heavy damage on the British regiment at Breed hill. Commonly known as the battle of Bunker Hill. The War continued
RUNNING HEAD: Freedom 5 with wins and losses over the next couple of years. It wasn’t until 1777 the war turned for the better. Our victory at the battle of Saratoga was the turning point for us in this war. This victory prompted France to join us as allies in this war. The leadership and training provided by the French vastly benefits our troops(The American Revolution). We had wins and losses over the next few years, With the help of the French we were able to force Cornwallis to withdraw and eventually surrender his entire army on October 19 of 1781. Even though the British troops remained throughout some of the colonies neither side would take action against the other. The British finally removed their troops late in 1782 and put an end to the conflict(Locke, J. and Wright, B). Well it is now September and on the 3 rd 1783 and Great Britain formally recognized our Independence as the United States with the Treaty of Paris. After eight years the Revolution has finally come to an end.
