The Native American groups that were in the way of the expansion were the
Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole.

Andrew Jackson forced military to defeat most of the Creek nation and negotiated 9
out of 11 treaties that stripped land from the Native Americans.

The Supreme Court decided that Native Americans could occupy land in the US but
could not hold a tiltle to the land.

The Native Americans were not happy and some of the nations restricted land sales
to the government.

A non-violent tactic that the Native Americans used was adopting Anglo-American
practices like Western education, large-scale farming, and slave-holding.

The Cherokee used an 1830 Georgia law that prohibited whites from living on any
Indian territory.

What did the Indian Removal Act do/say?
The Indian Removal Act gave the President power to negotiate removal treaties with
Indian tribes living east of the Mississippi.

What was the Seminole reaction?
The Seminole refused to leave and ended up going to war.
10. What was the Creek reaction?
The Creek agreed to give them whatever land they wanted as long as they could
keep some of it and stay connected to their ancestral land. They had eventually been
kicked out.

The Cherokee were duped and went to war.
12. In your own words define - “Trail of Tears”
The Trail of Tears was the forced march west of Native American tribes from the
South to the Southeast that left many people deceased.
