HIS 100 Module Two Activity: Primary and Secondary Sources
Non-graded portion
: ●
List your historical research topic here: o
Chernobyl
Graded portion:
Distinguish between primary and secondary sources.
●
Primary sources are first-hand references that are directly linked to a topic. This can be anything
that was involved in the topic at the time it was happening such as records or audio recordings at
the time of the event. Secondary sources are things that come after the fact. Secondary sources
are usually books written about a topic or articles attempting to analyze and interpret.
Explain why it is important to consult a variety of sources when conducting historical research. Include
specific details and examples.
●
It is important to have a variety of sources with historical research because it allows you to see
different perspectives from multiple points in time and people. This helps create an overall
message for research instead of keeping it strictly narrow by using only a single form of sources.
Identify one
primary
source that would help investigate your research question (include the title, author,
and link to the source).
●
Something that would help me answer my research question is a source that reinforces one of
