HIS-100 2-1 Short Response
1.
Describe your overall experience locating these primary sources. Was it challenging or straightforward? Do you learn anything interesting along the way? My overall experience locating these primary sources were quite challenging for me. I did a lot of clicking back and forth to try to locate what was needed for this module. I did however, finally, locate the petition and the transcription
of an interview with Tom Evans. I really did not learn anything that was interesting to me along the way. After completing this assignment, I found that researching was not as intimidating as I initially assumed it would be.
2.
Were you able to locate an interview with Tom Evans, a close friend of President Truman’s, who interacted with scientists who were trying to reach Truman with their campaign against the use of the atomic bomb? Share your search terms and a link to the primary source. Yes, I was able to locate the interview in the Truman Library site. I had to explore the page for a while, but I located the oral history tab and typed in Tom Evans
name and checked the index for Atomic Bomb key words and found the interview that way. There are many interview transcripts of Evans, and if ever needed, I will be able to successfully locate those transcripts.

3.
Were you able to locate a petition against the use of the atomic bomb circulated by Leo Szilard directed toward President Truman? Share your search terms and a link to the primary source.
Yes, I was actually thinking in the Trumans’ Library I would find the petition, since I located, I believe two letters from Szilard to Mr. Connelly in regard to the petition. After reading more on that site, I had no further luck. When I researched Szilard Petition
on the Atomic Heritage page, I was able to successfully find the petition. https://www.atomicheritage.org/key-documents/szilard-petition
4.
Were you able to locate an interview with Lilli Hornig, a scientist who signed Szilard’s petition against the use of the atomic bomb? Share your search terms and a link to the primary source. Yes, I went onto the Manhattan Project Voices site, and just simply searched Leo Szilard,
and a list of search results appeared with the interview of Lilli Hornig halfway down the list. https://www.manhattanprojectvoices.org/oral-histories/lilli-hornigs-interview
