Many times in healthcare facilities, it can be difficult to keep staff. When the company or organization has an issue with employee retention, it is often that a look inward can give some clues as to why. Whether it be short staffed, stressed environment, lack of training, and other discrepancies. When looking to find what the issues may be it can be as simple as looking to the staff that have remained what the concerns may be and why the turn over rate is higher. Even a anonymous drop box could list concerns, from wages, training, to poor management. Looking for solutions to the issues can be tricky but once the issues have been identified, a plan to correct these issues can be proposed. One solution is creating better work environments
and conditions. Training, reviewing wages and salaries, scheduling, cross-training, are all areas that can be evaluated for solutions (Allied Health Community, 2019). Training is one thing that the organization can do to make sure that the staff members have all the resources to perform their work. This makes it a less stressful environment. A small group can be placed to evaluate and analysis what training if any is needed. Nursing staff that are current employees, should be up to date and current on all licensures, while this covers a lot of state and federal updates to healthcare, the organization itself, also has to part of their skills. It may be something as simple as cross training, that could help these staff members adequately function on the floor, and give them the extra boost of confidence that they care competent. Making sure that they can access any resources that will keep them current in their certifications and license and any other on-job training is available to the staff members (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, 2018). Ensuring that the staff is full, is another important factor, as if the staff members can have a healthy ratio of staff to patient, it is easier for the staff member to give attention and time to each of their patients, this means the quality of care will go up, the amount of errors will decrease, and over all the staff member will feel less stressed with the workload. This also means that all staff has the same complete training, it wont help to have staff that cannot perform the same tasks as their counterparts making it inevitable that someone else comoete the work that they are not trained to do. This could open up the option to cross-training. If it is decided that cross training can be useful, it may be that the staff members can work along side others in the department, or tasks that they are being trained to participate in. Cross

training can make it easier for all staff members to work together and become part of a team that will allow them to work and perform and complete tasks and assignments while all working for a common goal. It can also mean that there are many people that staff members can go to for a question or support. When bringing in new hires it is important to make sure that their training and projected work requirements are aligned to those in the staff, as well as the company. It can be easy to train new people for a shift, that are just coming from school and certification, however if it is a staff member that has experience from another facility it can be difficult to intergrate them into the new and different changes of another organization, from the very core values and objective. It is important that if the staff members that are being hired are making a new highering wage, and the veterans work for the same amount that they have, it is wise to look at salaries and wages, these are espeicallty imtportnt for those who are williungm to cross trian if the load of work is more demanding. It is important that all staff members feel like they are appreicatrd for the work that they do as well as, feel like they are respected and not taken advantage of. Making sure that all staff members are being paid what they are worth, the more likely they are to stay employed with a company that values them and encourages them to continue to grow and eveolve not only for the company but for themselves.
